Would you say he looks better, worse? Some of his recent games kinda remind me of some of the games towards the end of the 2004 season (@PIT, @STL), where it seems he's too content to check down.

I would say that he looks better.
Penny is someone who will learn through mistakes and experience , so just by time alone I would say yes hes better.
Funny thing , having that injury made him look at his throwing mechanics and by a long way I would say that his throws are much much better.
Hes certainly tough , but I still wonder if he has a bit of pitter-patter disease.

If you are going to judge by the last game, you have to realize the weather was horrible, and it was just as important to NOT turn the ball over as it was to complete passes.

2004 pre-injury Chad was a top 5 QB, he's been mostly good this year but he's not top 5. He is alot better now than he was at the end of '04 and in the playoffs.

In 2004, he had the league's leading rusher behind him which made things a lot easier. Now, he's doing this with a poor running game and no real gamebreakers at receiver (even though Coles and Cotch are great at what they do). I'm going to say 2006 for that reason...but physically he looks like he did in the beginning of 04 which was pre-injury

Moss was playing hurt alot in '04, he wasn't '03 or '05 Santana Moss. The receivers Chad has this year are MUCH better than what we had in '04. I like McCareins, he was our best WR in '04 and Chad's go to guy but Coles and Cotch are alot better.

Chad is running the whole offense from the line of scrimmage more often now with Shottenheimer as OC, and I think he's in more control of the game. And as gustonarmy mentioned, he had to adjust his throwing motion and seems to be throwing the ball better, if anything.

I think he's still getting used to Schottenheimer, as well as his new throwing technique. Remember Tiger Woods went into a slump when he adjusted his mechanics before coming back badder than ever.

    I'll take this Chad because...

...2006 Chad is audibling a lot more, chaning plays at the line, and is being allowed to do more with less of a team than in '04. He also has a stronger arm than ever. When was the last time Chad overthrew his wideouts in consecutive games? Not never. In '04 the offense was I'd say, 65% rushing attack vs. 35% passing attack. Now I'd say it's 70% passing vs 30% rushing. Everyone and their mama knew the Jets running game would be slow starting if it ever started at all this season. That is why Chad's INT's are up because he has had to take more chances passing the ball. But with the emergence of Barlow and Leon Washington, Chad will right himself.

I can't remember where I heard this but, CP is second in efficiency on changing plays at the LOS, (behind PM). His play calling this year has been spot on.
There was a play against the Pats where he audibled on the blitz and got the ball out to LC ( I think?) over the middle with zero time to do it, incredible play.

He was a very good QB in 2004 before the two shoulder injuries.

Right now he's a pretty good leader and QB. I'd take the 2004 version any day though.
