The play where Petty got sacked and he fumbled caught my eye. Did Shell just completely miss his assignment by blocking down or was that on Petty's end not adjusting to the blitz? My initial reaction was that it was Shell's fault, on a passing down why would you leave Wake unblocked?
Seemed like it should have been a quick read and get the ball out because Petty kind of hesitated. It's hard to say because both players are young and could be responsible for doing something wrong Regardless, Shell is a mid-round rookie who did OK in his first live action. He was obviously not a LT at the next level so I take his preseason performance with a grain of salt. Will be nice to see him develop as a RT these last couple games...we really could use a hit on one of these
I thought he looked pretty good outside of the one breakdown that almost lead to a career ender for Petty. It'd be a huge lift if we can be confident with Winters/Shell on the right side next year. Winters has progressed nicely and is a good run blocker and absolutely great at seal blocking on pulling plays. Keep Mangold and we would really only need to focus on the hardest spot to fill in left tackle.
The line call was for Shell to block down. Not sure why that would be the call, but it was a missed assignment rather than a bad physical play. This is why we need to keep Mangold around. Logic should've taken over in him taking on the free rusher with 75+ career sacks, but hopefully he can build on this performance.
Edwards is serviceable punter and is far from sucking. Can you let his umbilical cord dry up and fall off before sending him to the trash heap?
he only takes like 10 minutes dilly dallying from the time he gets the snap to the time he kicks it. I'm surprised he hasn't had a lot more blocked. Then he had that mishap in the Baltimore game where he dropped it right in his hands and he should've booted it out of the back of the end zone for 2 points instead of messing it up more to give them a TD. the way I see it he is a net negative for this team. It's such a stupid position. Idk why they don't just sign a guy for cheap that's done it before in this league. every year they go with an inexperienced guy and they get inexperienced results like the above. Just sign an old guy off the scrap heap to safely kick it 40 yards and not make any glaring mistakes and that would be an improvement. It is not a position you should allow a person to grow into, its a damn punter. Just get someone who won't completely screw up games for you
Players do develop you know. I wasn't able to watch the game on Saturday but from everything I've heard he looked pretty decent against a pretty good D-Line in Miami.
This will catch heat because everyone is shitting on the OL for communication issues that likely arose from whomever was setting the protections (usually the QB) but I think Ijalana is the only player on the line who isn't starting caliber. If we were forced to go into 2017 with a new LT, Carpenter, Johnson/Mangold, Winters and Shell, I think it would be more than a serviceable group.
For those that wanted insight on that Suh / Wake play: Must've been some hot read out there? Sounds like it was on Petty.
I thought Shell looked pretty promising. I was going to make a post and then 2 minutes later the strip sack happened... I liked Shell coming out of college. But he looked terrible in PS. However, he looked solid Saturday.
Yeah, well wake me up whrn Shell develops ino anything othr than depth. The Shell pick was merely Mac's lame attempt at unfucking a draft that he fucked up. There were a million decent OL available in the 2nd round. Instead, his choice was to take a developmental QB. Now we are 4-12...
Did Bowles or Gailey say what the blocking schemes were? I'll admit that I haven't watched a presser since 2012.
They didn't, but he blocked in immediately, along with the entire line blocking left. That usually leaves a slot for the runningback to block the outside rusher. Could be wrong. Either way, they weren't on the same page at all.
I get you, but it's hard to take that analysis seriously without some confirmation from the team. I spent years trying to analyze film (far before the All22 was available) and I made picks like you just did. I made theories about why they did what they did. I thought it was impressive. But there was no way of knowing if I was right, because nobody would tell us what the team schemes were. So, basically, wheels were spun. You can theorize all you want, but without a coordinator to confirm what you were thinking, you could be overanalyzing a guy that didn't hear the call in the huddle. That's why GGN and PFF are mostly useless.
Is this the same bullshit you blathered about Brian Winters by any chance when he was drafted? You sound like you don't have a clue and drunk to boot... There's offensive line UNITS all over the fuckin NFL built on players that were developed by being drafted throughout the seven rounds of the draft, and also signed as UDA's. It's how the fucking thing works
Don't think it will be, in Turlit Bowles practice report he said winters will probly need surgery on his rotator cuff
