Indeed, "urbane" even. Some years ago I tried the NJ.com Jets board. It was like Dante's Inferno: "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here."
You should have been around during the good old days of the NYDN Jet forum. It was Sparta in there! That's where Petro found me and Green Guy. Ahh... those were the days...
Man, it was open warfare on that site. Back during the Herm Edwards/Paul Hackett Era. Served us well in the border war to come with JI.com.
Hey! Somebody call Macc quick! Osweiler's been benched. Maybe he could sign him, as long as we're talking about useless QBs.
There are other ways to keep up with the team and players. If you want to discredit me on that basis, feel free. It's your loss, not mine.
There's really not, outside of looking at stats which don't always tell the full story. Keep telling yourself you're an expert. *watches first 10 minutes of a movie & leaves theater* That movie was AWESOME! See how illogical that is? Good.
I didn't say I was an expert. Never have, never will. At least I'm honest, which is more than I can say for you and many other posters. I don't have to defend myself to you or anyone else. The things I speak about I don't have to see every minute of every game. I see the games I can. I read the posts here in game threads and in the forum. I read newspaper accounts of the games. I watch highlights. I listen to ESPN and NFL network when I can. As I would have expected coming from you, your analogy is lame and totally inaccurate. I don't know why I keep giving you second chances to be a decent person. It should be clear to me and everyone what an arrogant asshat you are by now.
So this mornings Peter King column has Matt Moore as an offensive player of the week, the opinion that this debacle isnt Todd Bowles fault, and the Jets have drafted 3 QB's in 5 years with nothing to show for it. My god, Peter King is a fucking hack.
People that think Petty is the problem are seeing things. The O-line wasn't block the DE....let that sink in. Not some exotic blitzer, not the safety, or the corner coming off the edge. The freakin' DE's! You know, the guys that line up with their hands in the dirt that you EXPECT are rushing the passer on 99% of the plays? When Petty got crunched who crushed him? Wake and Suh, the 2 guys that should be priority #1 to block. Nah, totally not important on this team. How can ANYONE be successful in that situation? Honestly, I though Petty was one of the better things to watch this game, over that HORRENDOUS D and shitty Special teams, the absence of effort. Petty looked better this week and the ONLY person that performed well, again, was Powell.
You're probably right Pulse. TB was most likely hoping Petty would be medically out so he could start Fitz these last two games. Frankly with this oline, I wish they would start Fitz and let him get his ass mashed instead of Petty.
I'm just impressed Petty could take the shot he took and still be OK. Hopefully they clean up the pass protection for next game. I watched alot of football yesterday, curious about whether Petty's "accuracy issues" were specific to him or if other star quarterbacks had the same issues. Last nights Cowboy/Buc game in particular because Winston was the number one pick of the 2015 draft and Petty was 103. Winston is an incredible athlete and competitor. Great arm, incredible pocket presence. He evaded one pass rush where he evaded 3 defenders. Amazing. He also loves the game, NBC showed the playbook he made when he was 10 years old... Great story. It would have been wonderful to have him on the Jets. His stat line was 17/35 with 2 TD's, 3 picks and 2 fumbles. Not good (Yes I know he was playing the Cowboys) But beyond stats, he was often inaccurate on his long throws. Sailing passes 2 yards over his the WRs head. One of his 2 TD's was a potential interception that bounced off the hands of the defender and into the hands of his WR. His WR had no chance at a catch had it not been kept live by the Cowboy defender. It was still a great throw, 40 yards downfield on the run, but its amazing how Petty gets slammed for being inaccurate and the marquee guys that get chosen high in the draft dont get that reputation. Maybe its just any Jet QB is automatically discredited. And on the other side, Dak Prescott was outstanding. 80% completion percentage? Its crazy. But I couldnt help but notice how many of his pass plays were one-read looks and how he was able to stand tall in the pocket and just scan the field forever because of that offensive line. The Jets need to build their OL. It is the most important priority of the offseason.
I agree on building the o-line. Its not sexy but we need to become stout upfront. Any team with a dominant front 5 will have a shot. The QB gets time to read and throw; RB gets holes to run through; Defense gets a breather with sustained offensive drives. Not a sexy draft pick but the trickle down effect is hard to ignore.
Short of a stout line up front and with Petty's injury, there is no way Petty faces New England this weekend. However, I think we will get embarrassed regardless. There are no real answers for the problems this team has right now except to clean house and start over.
