Honestly, I don't care who the HC is as long as he holds his players accountable and doesn't accept half-assed effort - EVER! I want a coach who instills a winning mentality, and that comes first from their own mindset, and secondly from the players he chooses to play. I don't know if Bowles is that guy. I do think there are guys out there who are, but I'll admit I don't have the knowledge/resources to tell you who has that and are they available, and more importantly, would they agree to coach this perennial losing franchise. If we were to take a chance on another coord., I would want it to be an OC this time, and Shanahan is the hot choice right now. But if they stick with Bowles I sure hope he dramatically improves in all the ways he's deficient so far. Is that even possible? I have my doubts.
I've got a lot of respect for Bill O'Brien at the Texans. No idea if he's suited to the role - offensive thinking HC though? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
None of those bums. We need to find either an experienced head coach who is still young enough to stick around for a while or the best offensive coordinator available. Most of you guys laughed at me two years ago when I wanted Gary Kubiak (who had head coaching experience and was serving as an offensive coordinator). Since the odds of prying Kubiak away from the Broncos are close to zero I think Kyle Shanahan could be our guy. While he does not have head coaching experience his father was a long time head coach. He served under Kubiak as a WR coach in Houston where he was promoted to become the youngest offensive coordinator in the NFL. After leaving the Texans to work under his father with the Redskins (he and his father were fired at the end of the 2013 season), Shanahan ended up in Cleveland two months later where he resigned when the front office insisted that Manziel start the following year. He is now having great success in his fourth offensive coordinator role with Atlanta. At 36 Shanahan could be our head coach for a very long time if he proves successful.
Kyle is my pick as well. Kubiak wanted no part of the jets, he told every team that wanted to interview him that he was content until the Broncos called him. Kubiak knew that he probably would not get another shot at HC if he screwed up and that's why he would have stayed with the Ravens. The problem that I see with most candidates is their lack of overall team management skills. Most new HC delegate and that's it, they stick to what they know as OC or DC and hope the people they hire do their jobs. While that's an ok strategy, in today's NFL the HC not only needs to delegate, he also needs to manage all three phases of the game to get the results that HE wants. It was reported by Cimini that the reason the jets are using the TE more is because Bowles insisted on it, where was TB during this whole time that the TE was not being used? That's one of the reasons Bellicheat is successful, it's not that his coordinators are great, they simply carry out Bills philosophy and that's why you see the team as a whole and not three different groups. TB is here through next year, let's hope that his on the job training is accelerated because I believe it's going to get worse before it gets better. Oh and to answer the op, none of the above.
Ok choice but again he is a rookie HC like TB and bad stuff can happen I personally like Coughlin and Gruden as discipline guys and offensive planners No other takers I guess he has to do....build up a powerhouse offense already
I hated watching the Pats last night, especially on defense. They have what, maybe one high draft pick on that unit (Hightower) and the rest are castoffs, but goddamn do they play hard and compete on every play. Minkovich, Long, McClellan, Butler, Chung, etc. etc.. Everyone on that D chases after the ball. Every reception given up there is one guy tackling and another ripping at the ball. They may get beat sometimes, but they play like they are scared of being called out in the film room. If a guy gets selfish, thinking he is bigger than the unit, he gets traded. If a guy doesn't show effort or buy in, he gets cut. It's a simple meritocracy, and it's highly effective. Those guys are literally fighting for their jobs. Our guys don't play like that. There's no effort, and a missed tackle results in a long gain because there's nobody else going to the ball. We don't create turnovers because we don't compete for or rip at the ball - we just want the play to end so we can rest. We are lazy, and our guys are just out there to collect a fat paycheck. We have rewarded them without demanding effort on every play. They get paid whether they try or not and a guy like Revis or Wilk knows he isn't getting cut Monday morning. To me, that is a coaching issue and I want coaches and a FO that demands accountability and effort on every play. We saw glimmers of hope in the second half of the SF game, but who are we kidding, it was against a 1 win team. I have no faith in the guys you put forward getting this done. Matt Patricia makes sense to me, but he has Darth Hoodie looming behind him and BB has the ultimate job security. I would prefer some continuity before we go and and fire another CS. Give Bowles until the end of the season to see if he can build some momentum and demonstrate that he has not lost the locker room.
Of those three I would take Gruden. Todd just does not show any signs. Where is he going to improve? He thinks he is right about everything. He game plans poorly, he adjusts poorly, and his players do not develop. Also, they lay down sometimes. There are too many areas that require improvement. But I agree with 90% of the fans---he will be back. Because Woody is a douche.
they cannot bring in another newbie. it has to be a guy with a big ego and at least some track record. a been there done that guy. Is one available? that would be the only guy--someone who thinks he is bigger than any job---even this one
Nobody I would want is going to be on the market next year. McCarthy switching the gold to white would be a nice sight though. But like I said - i don't think it's going to happen.
you are a jets fan. what the hell do you know about reality, anyways? gruden had a chance to toss his name into the mix when bowles was hired. he did not. those who can , do. those who can't join bristol clown community college. forget the former head coach bullshit. kyle's dad was a head coach, and won a super bowl. kyle has experience witha dynamic offense and developing qbs. i'd rather take a chance on him. he would demand total personell control, if he's smart. only way to be successful is to remove the owner from the player decisions.
We're oing to Denver Oakland New Orleans Tampa Bay & Cleveland next year playing KC, SD ATL CAR *& Jax at home Schedule doesn't look that easy And its when you play a team, not who you play, that matters. That being said, Woody (or whoever) has to really think it over about Bowles Does he have what it takes to be a winning coach in the NFL? Is he a Super Bowl winning coach? If no, then why keep him? Personally, I don't think so...I'd fire Bowles and give Mac the reins to hire his own coach. Of course, that virtually guarantees another assistant or (hopefully) a hungry one-time loser as HC If a big name pops up, he'll probably want control and Mac could be booted also, which I don't think wouljd be such a good idea So, unless its Belichick LOL, I don't want to see that happen.
