13. New York Jets (5-4). I was totally wrong about the Jets. Totally. I thought Eric Mangini would take a couple of years to get a grip on the rigors of such a hard job in such a major market, and I thought their talent was overrated. I watched 80 percent of their game in New England, and I'm amazed to say that they're very close in talent to the Patriots. I'd still take New England, but it's not a wide gulf. Not at all. And the physicality of the Jets, on both sides of the ball. This is a good team, possibly a wild card team
"I was totally wrong about the Jets." ...they're very close in talent to the Patriots." I have to tell you - the coaching is the key. What a difference taking the bye week and making changes. Have you seen any Jet HC including Tuna do so much in two weeks - make so many positive changes? Game Planning - give Mangini two weeks and...he can come up with a scheme to beat you. This is my kind of guy...building my kind of team!
Peter King's talent evaluation skills are on par with the Mets Scout who thought Kaz Matsui would be a Gold Glove shortstop. This is the guy who thought Chris Redman would be a better pro than Chad Pennington. The Jets record last year was a product of major injuries which contributed to an overall decline in morale. The Jets season was predicated on the health of Pennington. Once that was established, it was obvious that this was a 7-8 win team. -X-
He also said this i. Remember nine days ago, when Nick Saban couldn't coach? The guy is still one of the top five coaches in the NFL. Nick Saban is NOT a top 5 coach in the NFL.
Peter King is an ass. Even when he talks about the Jets he says he would still take the Patriots. Big shock there Pete! Never liked this Patriots homer.
People are allowed to be wrong in their predictions. My only problem with King is the whole Patriot love-in deal.
Me too. I think he writes a terrific column, but I don't see him as being any more special than the rest of us, besides being a great writer and having tons of contacts.
Yes, but that is more indicitive of the Pats slide then the Jets surge. Don't get me wrong: I like the direction the Jets are goin g, but there are gaps in talent that need to be addressed. Victor Hobson, however, is looking a lot less like a liability. His position I had tagged as "in need of immediate upgrade", but his play has improved steadily to where he is becoming a very solid asset to this defensive unit.
The Jets blitzed a lot more on Sunday, and they got a lot more pressure on Brady than they have on any quarterback this year. Good job by Mangini to recognize the lack of pressure, know Brady would be uncomfortable with the pressure, and adjust the game plan.
Sorry - even the brightest sunshiners have too admit the pats have more talent than the jets........... However - its just as important to mold that talent and coach systems that are suited to the players with the goal of overall improvement. Imagine what the jets could do IF they did indeed have the talent that is on the pats roster..... could be scary around here in a couple years. jil
He flip-flops too much in his opinion. Before the year started he was bashing us, then we reel off a few wins, and he's thinking maybe we're not that bad. Then we lose to the Browns and he downplays our record, citing the win/loss records of the teams we beat. Now we win and we're good again. He just bugs me. But maybe that's just experts in general. :breakdance:
This is not something a credited sports analyst wants to say. Let's for a minute assume that this is the most he's ever watched of any Jets games. Let's also assume for a minute that the product of his reviews are based on watching at most, "80%" of the entire game for any given team. Would he be guilty then, of not knowing exactly what he's talking about? It's clearly evident that the Jets outperformed the Patriots, but this game Peter King, was not the Jets' best performance of the season. That would have to be against the Colts, even with the loss, we had that team scratching their heads. Of course, Supermanning was there to save the day.
No kidding. Anyone see the moronic reverse call, which resulted in a fumble, that almost let KC back in the game late? Coaches should be pelted with stones for calls like that. (maybe slightly extreme)
Ah yes, Kinda like when Chad was driving on the Ravens and all of a sudden Hackett asks Lamont to throw a Pass for a TD on a short field.... ahhh the Genius of it alll....... Btw, I get to go first....
