of course not. Bowles has done a terrible job. and im not an anti-Mac guy. my stance has always been that he isnt some savior based on going from 4-12 to 10-6. there was nowhere to go but up when mac came in. we were a mess, we had money, and we had high picks. Mac has done an ok job, hard to evaluate based on being so early for his draft picks. i do like that he didnt give fitz a multi year deal and that he brought wilkerson back. i didnt like that he brought in another older guy in forte. jury is still out on mac verdict is in on bowles
skrine always gets lost in the shuffle and gets off scott free... mostly because other higher paid guys arent getting it done. but this guy is make 6 or 7 million a year and isnt earning his pay either. he has done well in the slot or outside
The Browns will likely need him, there is a long way to go in the season and they're using a new QB every week or two.
yup... which is why i though the right move was to go and sign Hoyer. no one would have said anything if mac didnt cave into fitz 15 million number and brought in hoyer who is similar talent and who they wanted last season as well.
I think we should look to trade Marshall to Green bay. i think its a good fit. that teams passing offense is struggling and for the first time in decades they were boo'd by their own fans this last week. their WRs cant get seperation and rogers is in a funk. marshall would rejuvinate that offense and they are a win now team with rogers being 33 and the nfc wide open. i think they'd part with a second or third rounder
I think that's a little premature. We've really had 3 problems. The first far and way is absolutely terrible QB play. The second is a porous secondary - which has been a combination of scheme mistakes and poor CB play. The third is an inability to get consistent pressure on the QB. Hopefully, either Petty or Hack will solve the first next year. The third will hopefully be fixed by the young LBs they have getting experience. The scheme problems have to be fixed (and this ones clearly on Bowles) and the secondary needs to improve. Revis might still be recovering from his off season wrist surgery, so he might still be an OK to good CB. This could be a decent to good team next year with the personnel they have. You have to remember what complete crap this team was when Mac took over. He and Bowles significantly outperformed expectations last year and they are a victim of that this year. This team should not have been 10-6 last year, but the easy schedule and a good job by the GM and coach convinced the fans that we had a contender. However, we still have too many holes to be a contender. We're really still in the rebuild and you need to have a little patience and allow those young players they drafted to develop.
I had high hopes for Maccagnan, I liked most of his moves, but the shine wore off when he threw away a 2nd round pick on Justin Hackenburg. After that lick I was "shit maybe this guy is completely friggin clueless". Ultimately that one pick of Hackenburg IMO could warrant a firing at the end of the season, especially if we tank and pick a QB with a top 4 pick. But in his defense I don't think anyone expected Revis to turn into garbage overnight, he was the glue to that secondary and his inability to get it done has destroyed that defense. Also Pryor is just terrible, I don't care if he delivers one highlight reel hit a game the guy cannot cover anyone. Lee is too small and looks like a miss too, the LB corps was abused last night without Harris.
- Forte has been non-existent outside of 2 games. - Revis is 5 steps too slow, no longer hungry to play the game and makes a crapton of $$$ ... awful contract - Mishandling QBs ---- too many QBs on the depth chart, caved on Fitzpatrick, didn't cut Geno when there obviously isn't a role for him on the team. The last 2 really have been crippling both sides of the ball. They both easily share the blame, and they both deserve another year or so of trying to get out of this funk.
I can understand your concern. After the incredible success we've had with our 2nd round picks over the last decade, how can Mac roll the dice on a potential franchise QB in the 2nd round?Mac's a pretty good talent evaluator. If he thinks a Hack die roll is worth a 2nd round pick, I'm good with that.
I'm a Mac defender. Great article below --- I couldn't have said it better myself; http://www.ganggreennation.com/2016...n-getting-impatient-with-the-jets-performance "The fact of the matter is this regime inherited a roster that had virtually no talent. The first two years were really window dressing no matter what happened. This has always been about finding a base of young impact talent that would emerge in 2017, 2018, and 2019. You can’t build a winner exclusively through free agency. Free agents are too expensive to have a good one at every position in a league with a hard salary cap. We have seen the upper limits of what a team built through free agency can do a year ago. It still will have holes." At the very least, --- if not for Maccagnan, we'd only have Decker at WR, Geno at QB & probably Ijalana at LT after the D'Brick retirement.
Every QB in the draft is a potential franchise QB if Hack is; but that doesn't mean every QB in the draft is worth taking in the second round. What criteria are you applying to Hack being worth a second round pick other than the fact that Mac thought so and you are okay with whatever decision he makes?
Are you claiming that if we hired someone other than Mac that other hypothetical GM wouldn't have been able to sign or trade for any other player and we'd still have the exact same team Idzik fielded? If not, your above assertion is meaningless because we'd certainly have more than Decker at WR, Geno at QB (though I'm curious how you believe we have anyone at QB better than Geno because of Mac when Petty and Hack have never played and Fitz is garbage) and another LT.
How can Forte go anywhere running behind that OL???? It is the worst in the league and they NEVER address it on draft day taking defensive players 8 years in a row in the first round!!!! If Mac had a brain in his head he would trade down from the first round selection and pick up some picks and draft some OL--take a lesson from the cowboys.
Leonard Williams was solid, I was happy with Lee in the first round, but would've rather traded down.
