This, my fellow jet fans, is the football gospel truth. We are in desperate need of a QB, the kid was there for us in the second, armed with a ton of raw potential, and we snatched him from the waiting jaws of BB. Splendid move, yet some still bitch about it. We have in Petty and Hack a huge glimmer of hope, Something I don't remember having since God knows when. The horrific cluster fuck days of prior regimes, under pathetic leadership, with Sanchez, Tebo, and Geno are mercifully gone for ever. These kids are now being groomed under an OC that knows his craft, will not rush them into the fire till ready, and will put them in a position to win. Yes, yes, yes we still need OL help, we know that. But with this GM the team is growing in strength in leaps and bounds, not taking the typical one step forward and three backwards we are accustomed to. This Jet team and this leadership is going places...and its about damned time. I can phantom anyone not liking what we currently have in the wings behind Fitz. We have hope, something we were sorely missing till big Mac came to town.
I have to admit, I was a doubter. All three of them. Smith, Petty and Hack. Mainly because I believe it is extremely rare to find a franchise QB unless you invest in a first round pick. As far as Hack, I heard he has lots of potential. Just struggles with accuracy. An NFL QB can overcome lack of height, lack of agility, poor mechanics, arm strength (to a degree), ability to read defenses ... but accuracy? Kiss of death that rarely improves with experience. However ... what I saw from Hack in this game blew me away. I know it is only pre-season and backups, but ... I was impressed. I am hoping I was completely wrong about this kid.
Yes I did. I appreciate all of it. Like I said a billion times already, I'm fine with taking a shot on Hack, I just wish it was later. And there's no way to know what the Pats would have done if he were on the board. Educated guess? Sure. But like I also said earlier, I wouldn't be that heartbroken if we didn't draft Hack at all so I don't fall in the "but we wouldn't have been able to draft him!" camp of worries.
I knew that link was too good to be true. I've seen that video about 100 times already with 70 of them being prior to the draft.
Tomorrow night probably the first time in my life I'm looking forward to watch the 4th preseason game. Hope Hack gets more than a quarter but I understand the methodical maturation process. Also can't wait to see him behind a decent OL. Long term vision, OL one of our weakest spots overall considering depth, age, stability. Marvel to look at the Cowboys stud OL and how they attacked that weakness thru draft and development. Not to rush days away but think that is strongly addressed next offseason for us. Watching the TD drive back, I can't help but watch the two throws to Anderson. The rythm he was in was noticeable and the TD pass, accuracy and precision were impeccable. I've said it before in this thread, it's truly epic Hack can sit a season, possibly more. The top Pro on him coming in was his Football IQ, what an advantage to have him watch Fitz and the team prepare game week. We can only hope he stays on Fitz and Patullo's pocket all season like a sponge, all while honing his skills maybe not so much in reps in practice but important little things like Mechanics, footwork, playbook nuances. This is also why I am in the lane of cutting Geno Smith, moreso about his toxic presence than his uneven play. The interview after the preseason game with a "No Friends" hat on, a picture from one of the beat writers that showed 14 9 and 5 stretching while noting 7 never stretches with the QBs, constant subliminal Tweets. For how little he's produced he's more a distraction, especially at an important position where you want your guy as buttoned up as possible.
At the same time I understand Bowles' penchant for veterans and NFL experience, also Im not in the meeting rooms or practice to see how far along Petty is. But 9 appears to be a good charatcher kid and has improved which shows he has a good work ethic. If Bowles and Gailey think they can get 80% of what Geno would give them with Petty as a Backup, cut bait on Geno.

I kinda was thinking out loud about long term when he's (hopefully) eventually a starter. He looked great with time and rythm last game, hopefully in long term we focused on upgrading OL due to importance.
Kolmann said he thought Hack would clean up everything by The Combine, but he really didn't. However, he did clean up just about everything by his Pro Day, so Kolmann was right about him cleaning things up. Then Mac had him in for workouts and Interviews after his Pro Day.....By the time of The Combine all the stories judgments were written. I doubt Hack would've made it to the 3rd rd. All scouting reports have negatives and positives, but people a lot of the time just focus on the negatives. The media certainly will. And then the negative becomes a narrative and some people lose sight of the positives, or refuse to even consider them. I could care less about Mac taking him in the second round. Especially considering how critical it is to have a fucking QB. Every fucking pick has risk and it's about hitting on it. Not what somebody in the media said about what the value of a particular pick is. Hack's got all the components. Hack addressing the line of scrimmage and adjusting on the fly compared to Geno is like me playing Bobby Fischer in a game of Chess.....no contest. That's the most important thing in this whole thing.
But it's not a "report," it's an opinion piece. The guy put a lot of time into creating a video which supports his opinion and apparently yours and supported that opinion in the audio clip but that does not create a pattern of fact. Your "Listen, watch and LEARN" is misplaced. Too many people here confuse opinion and reality and treat opinion they like as the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
Reports came out. Dallas/Cleveland/New England all were reportedly going to take him with their next available picks after our 2nd rounder.
OK good, didn't see that my fault. I actually agree with his assessment here, he is a good pre-snap QB with the ability to really improve on that, but the video displays situations where he wasn't able to really get them into the right play and lost the chess match with Temple. However, you do have to consider the play clock and so on and so forth I hope can continue to improve because I believe Hack can get it done too. Never thought I would say that as a Jets fan talking about a QB. Much to improve, but the blueprint is there.
You're completely right in pointing out my misuse of the word "report" in connection with the 8/3016 Episode 4 of the Locked In audio piece which, along with the youtube video, contains lots of opinion based material. However, both, particularly the Youtube piece, contains plenty of objective, fact-based analysis of Hackenberg which I found to be the most valuable information I have come upon to date that describes/explains the reasons for his successes and struggles at the collegiate level as well as enable any fair minded individual the opportunity to reasonably deduce why his chances to become a franchise quality QB in the future are so promising.
