Eugene Monroe cut from Baltimore.... Would you get rid of Giacomini and replace him with Monroe? Brent is way over paid and we could possibly get Monroe for at a similar salary.
Fitz was masterful at masking a below average (closer to bad than average) offensive line last year. If he's not back, we need to improve pass protection considering pocket awareness has always been Geno's Achilles heel. Breno would get him killed. This is something to think about but I'm not sure we can afford it and the weed isnt exactly what Bowles looks for as far as culture goes.
I read he was cut after Giants tried trading for him and it fell through which means they were at least considering taking on his contract. What was he being paid in Baltimore and is it reasonable or even doable here?
Cutting Brent post June 1st will save 5 million. Monroe was being paid 6.5 mill in base salary by the Ravens this year with an 8mill cap hit and he was cut. This actually seems doable and would be a nice addition to our Oline.
I concur. It was key last year. And a key consideration for this year. And a big part of why TB&Mac want him back, imo
If he comes with excess baggage like he does, maybe Jets can use him cheap this year - with "Prove-youself" deal, with extension coming up after this if he stays clean. P.S. I wouldn't mind the Jets giving him 3-4 year deal either. They can't replace both tackles in the next off season anyway. Ryan Clady should be replaced ASAP.
We have competition http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...ugene-monroe-ravens-release-article-1.2675247 Giants looking to sign OT Eugene Monroe after veteran gets released by the Ravens facebook 189 Tweet email GEICO SportsNite: NY Giants SNYTV Ralph Vacchiano NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Updated: Thursday, June 16, 2016, 12:46 AM The Giants have spent the offseason looking for an upgrade at right tackle. Now, with the offseason almost over, they may have found their man. Moments after veteran tackle Eugene Monroe was released by the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, the Giants began their pursuit of the 29-year-old, according to two NFL sources. They believed there was a “decent chance” they’d be able to land him too, though a source familiar with Monroe’s plans said he was in no rush to choose his next team.
If the Jets aren't going to bring back Fitz, I'd love for them to get Monroe, that O-Line needs to be rebuilt and if Geno is starting he is going to need to get all the help he can get in other areas.
He said the NFL should let players smoke marijuana, and that he'll keep advocating for them to change the rules. The Ravens were probably very worried that he'll get suspended for violating the substance policy, and/or felt that a marijuana evangelist was not the right fit for their locker room. (I'm well aware that half or more of NFL players use it, but it's not something that's talked about openly. The coaches and front office know it's going on but they don't want to see or hear about it.)
I don't think there's much chance the Jets will try to sign Monroe. I don't think they want to take the risk of his getting suspended, and they want higher character guys than that. In addition, they can't afford to get into a bidding war with the Giants. Finally, they'd be screwed if they wound up having to cut Breno in order to sign Monroe, have to way overpay Monroe to secure his services only to see him suspended for 8 games or more (?) due to his marijuana usage and outspoken stance on marijuana. Who would play RT then?
