Didn't see a thread discussing this on the first page?

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that if Chad can survive the Pats game intact, he will have played enough this season to trigger the massive incentives in his contract. (6 million dollars) http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/9785539

    First of all...

Good for Chad! He took the pay cut with a chance to earn the money back, which he has done. Great to see him healthy and productive.

    However...

I don't know the Jets salary cap situation for next year, but I'm assuming this money will hit our cap next year. (if it hit now we would be over the cap, wouldn't we?)

This will affect our ability to sign players this off-season.

This may be countered by Martins situation. Good luck to Chad though.

Posts like this really upset me. I hope you're not insinuating that we shouldn't play Chad because he's doing what we have been hoping he would do. Worry about the off-season when it comes and for now just be focused on winning. Chad Pennington is an essential element to that discussion.

Where did he say he didn't want Chad to play? He is simply stating a fact that these incentives may hinder the Jets ability to sign more free agents next season.

I don't expect we'll see Chad scrambling much this week. I think I'd just fall flat to the ground every chance I got, and I probably wouldn't get out of bed until game day just to make sure I get that cash.

    Thanks Cinvis.

Here's the article for those whose computer is as slow as mine.

    THE $6 MILLION DOLLAR MAN

Jets quarterback Chad Pennington has made it back physically and he is about to do the same financially.

Starting and playing Week 10's game against the New England Patriots will ensure that Pennington will earn back the entire $6 million that he agreed to cut from his salary and turn into incentives last offseason, said a source who has seen the Jets quarterback's contract.

Initially, Pennington was scheduled to make $9 million this season.

But the Jets wanted to safeguard themselves in the event that Pennington could not return from his latest torn rotator cuff surgery.

They inserted clauses that Pennington could begin recouping his millions on a week-by-week basis, with him recouping all of it if he could get to the 61 percent playing time mark. In theory, the ninth game of the season represents that 60 percent mark, and Pennington is playing well.

Not only has Pennington improbably survived, he has thrived, physically and financially.

Funny but ... Isn't 60% of the season in the 10th game ( versus the Bears).

Yes, somewhere in the first half of the Bears game.

After the Patriots game, he will have participated in 56.25% of the games. I don't know if it is broken down to fractional games though.

Now that I think about it. I read somewhere that incentives are based on the previous year stats (for salary cap purposes only). Our offense was so pathetic last year, the number of offensive plays would have been significantly less. So maybe it will be during this game?

i would imagine it would be based on % of offensive snaps.

Good for Chad. He put his money on his own ability to come back when nobody else thought he could, and he did it.

  15. yea this is great for chad, and im happy he will get the money that should have been his anyways......but i dont think this is such a great thing to happen this week, as already stated, he may have to play half this game or maybe even a little bit of next weeks game for it to reach the correct percentage of playing time, and dont think that chad isnt thinking about not getting injured and getting his 6 million, not saying that hes greedy or nothin,(no one who willingly takes a pay cut is greedy) but ill bet he plays just a tad bit more conservative, shit for 6 million.....i probably would too..........
But i hope he prooves me wrong.

Don't forget that Clemens came in at the end of the Jax game, so probably more like 56.13% :breakdance:
