The first rule of The 53-Man Roster Challenge is: You do not talk about The 53-Man Roster Challenge (outside this thread of course). The second rule of The 53-Man Roster Challenge is: You do not talk about The 53-Man Roster Challenge. Third rule of The 53-Man Roster Challenge: Post your predicted Week 1 53-Man Roster. No need to post any commentary, just the names are fine. Fourth rule: The deadline is July 1. If this thread goes well, I'll make a new one at the start of training camp, and we can have two contests. Fifth rule: You are not allowed to edit your predictions. Any edited prediction posts are disqualified. To change your prediction, quote your most recent prediction and make your changes in the new post. Especially considering the Fitz-situation, I'm sure there will be changes before July 1. Sixth rule: The winner is the poster who correctly guesses the most players on the Week 1 roster. Seventh rule: When Week 1 arrives, quote your last prediction (and it better be your last one, not your best one) and state how many you got right. I will look for the highest number and verify it. And the eighth and final rule: There is no prize for winning the contest. But I will edit the OP and declare you the winner, whoever you are.
Without further ado, here is my first prediction (starters are italicized): OFFENSE QB: I think Fitz will be back by the start of training camp, and Jets will carry 4 QBs. Geno will be active on game days. Ryan Fitzpatrick Geno Smith Christian Hackenberg Bryce Petty RB: Forte is nominally the starter, but he and Powell should split touches. Stacy's a goner. Matt Forte Bilal Powell Khiry Robinson FB: For whatever reason, Gailey seems to like carrying a FB, so Bohanon's here to stay. Tommy Bohanon WR: Enunwa gets a starting spot for his blocking. Ross beats out Jalin Marshall for the returning job. Devin Smith starts out the season on the PUP list. Brandon Marshall Eric Decker Quincy Enunwa Kenbrell Thompkins Charone Peake Jeremy Ross (KR/PR) TE: Davis holds off Zach Sudfeld, and the Jets carry just 2 TEs. Kellen Davis Jace Amaro LT: Ijalana makes the team as Clady's backup, but Clady really needs to stay healthy. Ryan Clady Ben Ijalana LG: I don't see Macc giving up on his fifth rounder from last year. James Carpenter Jarvis Harrison C: Johnson is insurance if Mangold gets hurt again. Nick Mangold Wesley Johnson RG: Winters is too cheap to cut. Brian Winters Dakota Dozier RT: I predict Breno will be cut to save the 5M. But Qvale will need to step up in camp, or we'll be forced to keep Breno around. Brent Qvale Brandon Shell DEFENSE LE: I can't see Mo getting traded now. Hopefully we get a long term deal worked out, but it probably won't happen. Muhammad Wilkerson Mike Catapano DT: It's a long shot, but hopefully Simon can become the next Snacks after this season. Steve McLendon Deon Simon RE: I predict Richardson will be suspended for 4 games. When he returns, the Jets will start 4 on the DL, and Catapano may be cut to make room for him. Leonard Williams Jarvis Jenkins LOLB: Mauldin earns a starting spot, but he'll be gone after this season if he can't get 12 sacks minimum. Lorenzo Mauldin Freddie Bishop MLB: Lee will overtake Henderson by the end of the season, but for now Henderson starts. David Harris Erin Henderson Darron Lee Bruce Carter ROLB: Jenkins is probably the second best OLB on the team, but he won't start as a rookie. Jordan Jenkins Trevor Reilly CB: Bowles likes nickel packages, so I'm going with 3 CBs in the starting lineup with Richardson out. Darryl Morris could beat out McDougle or Milliner for a roster spot. Darrelle Revis Buster Skrine Marcus Williams Juston Burris Dexter McDougle Dee Milliner FS: Flashback: Miles intercepted the Eli Manning pass that started our comeback against the Giants. Good times. Meanwhile, Bowles will groom Gilchrist to take over play-calling from Harris so we can cut Harris after this season. Marcus Gilchrist Rontez Miles SS: Bailey edges out Ronald Martin for the backup SS job. Calvin Pryor Dion Bailey SPECIAL TEAMS K: Saving a couple extra million isn't worth losing Folk's reliability as a short/intermediate range FG kicker. Nick Folk P: I'm giving the edge to Edwards for now because he was the draft pick. Lachlan Edwards (H) LS: Tanner, you da real MVP. Tanner Purdum RESERVE PUP: He won't be ready by Week 1, so he'll stay on the PUP list through camp. If he looks good and we need him, we'll activate him sometime during the season. If not, he'll end up on the season-ending IR. Devin Smith (WR) Suspended: I hope he gets off for his antics last summer, but I'm not banking on it. Sheldon Richardson (DE)
I pretty much agree with your 53....uh oh I'm eliminated, rule 2 violation, if they dont sign Greedy Fitz, Sudfeld stays
Seems like an awful lot of work for no prize. I'll throw in a cheap chinese Pennington jersey if that helps.
I think you have 54 players , so you have to cut one. Keep it fair.( no I was wrong continue on- you have 53. Moserator please remove this post.
Here's my 52 man roster......I got one more guy to figure out. OFFENSE QB: I think Fitz will be back by the start of training camp, and Jets will carry 4 QBs. Geno will be active on game days. I think u guys are missing a player, ill give u a hint, he plays linebacker and the jets are very high on him, he's definitely staying, they will keep 9 LB's if they have to, TAIWAN JONES, he's definitely making this roster
reguardless of what u think about Hack, I think he's gonna be a stud for us down the road, qb for years to come, yesterday was joe Namath's birthday , maybe it will be his last one and the jinx will finally be over lol--I kid of course but I do believe in the Namath curse, and starting in 2017 Hack is the man to shine for us after he sits this year and learns
and they will keep 4 qb's , u can never have enough to develop, and maybe down the road 1 of them will be trade bait, when was the last time this franchise had that problem, I'm gonna go ahead and say never
and I also think they will keep 6 WR's , not counting devin smith, I don't see him playing at all this year, he tore his acl late in the year and this coaching staff doesn't play anybody that isn't 100 percent in practice, I not sure Thompkins is a lock to make this roster, he has slippery hands, if they don't keep him I could see marshall, decker, enunwa, peake, and jalin marshall beating out ross cuz of punt returning, and I could see Robbie Anderson making this roster if he adds a few pounds, he's real thin but seems to be catching everything so far for what its worth
every year it happens but there is gonna be a couple of tough cuts to get to 53, especially this year, seem to have a lot more talent on this roster than in the past , and when they do cut those few guys and try to get them on the practice squad other teams will jump in and snatch them up, I know it happens every year but this year seems like it will hurt a little more , just my opinion of course
I'm not gonna make a prediction yet. The starting RG and/or RT may not even be on the roster yet. If Fitz re-signs, it could cause several shifts in the roster.
