i don't know if there's confusion or what in the debate about Pennington, but...

when people (including myself) call out Pennington after a bad game, it's not because we overreact to that one bad game. it's us being reminded that he either (a) under-performs or (b) is average. it seems that he can't consistently go out there and be a top-notch QB. three games at a time hardly qualifies as a stretch.

look at Pennington in big games in both the regular season and Postseason: he has a big win against Indianapolis (before they were truly dominant) and San Diego. other than that, he's been trumped by elite Defenses more than he has trumped them.

    now, compare that to Brady.

    cheers

anyone notice that generous call toward the waning minutes of the 2qtr. the one were Brady did a QB sneak on 4 and 1 at about the 50yd line? The ref didn't even hesitate to call a first and move the chains, even though i'm not so sure he got the first down. No doubt manning would've scored again with under a minute at the 50.

think the Jets get the call? although i hate the pats, Brady is still great QB, although i'd still take manniing over him.

Brady will never get any credit from the media and fans in general. Most fans are really stupid and just take what the media tells them without thinking on their own. The media hates Brady because he's more about the team than himself as an individual, so they don't know his personal life and have nothing to write about. The main reason they love Manning is all the commercials he's in and the fact that he'll answer all their questions and blame his teammates if he has to. Brady just won't give them anything. Look at TO and Randy Moss, the only things the media can say about Moss are he's a bad guy because of certain incidents. Moss' solution is to simply avoid those incidents and not talk to them, and now he is absolutely forgotten. Meanwhile TO seems to be talked about every week. If you look at it from a pure talent standpoint though, I really don't think anyone would take TO over Moss.

I am not sure where you are getting that the media hates Tom Brady. Almost all the talking heads I listened to yesterday could do nothing but gush over him. He is getting more than his share of love from the media.

since 2002 ho0w many tough teams has CHAD beaten? How many rings has he won? How long do we stick with 9TDS and 8INTS? If that was BOLLINGER, the fans would be calling for his butt yet CHAD gets a bye.

I love unsubstantiated and stupid homerism.

What supporting cast? You mean Reche Caldwell, Troy Brown, Doug Gabriel, Chad Jackson, Corey Dillon, Laurance Maroney, and Ben Watson? Give me Coles, Cotchery, Baker, and Leon Washington over that cast. Not to mention they have a 2nd year OC, so the coaching isn't that great.

What does Brady need to do to show how good he is? I really am dumbfounded how some people still take respect away from him. He's as good as Peyton. I waver daily on which one I think is better, but he is there.

This looks cool. Let me try one: If apples were coconuts, they'd be harder on the teeth. Or, how about: If igloos were ice cream, the living room would be delicious.

This is fun. I'll think up more and come back later.

There is no possible comparison between Brady and Chad. They should not even be mentioned in the same sentence. Chad is a smart player, a decent QB. That is all he is. The Jets will never get anywhere with his talent at QB. He is a stopgap. Question is; is Clemens going to be any good. I don't see how anyone can even have a rational opinion on that at this point. I actually would like to see him play some. The jets will be 8-8 this year. Pennington, I believe, will be gone next year. Why not give him some time now.

 It was a little sarcasm and a little overexaggeration, but I was just trying to make a point. Though Brady is undoubtedly a great QB who has helped his team--there, I said it--HELPED HIS TEAM, not WON--win three SB rings, there is more to a team than just a QB. Tom Brady doesn't win games, New England does. Chad Pennington doesn't win games, the Jets do. But Brady is unquestionably a better QB than Pennington and gives his team a better chance to win.

I hear you, and respect your opinion. I'm more in tune with Jetfanmack though, Brady is not just a better QB than Pennington, he is light years ahead of Pennington. Brady is a sure fire hall of famer who when all is said and done will be discussed with the best whoever played the game. Pennington will be forgotten like all the other serviceable QBs who have passed through the league before him. Look at the record of the "genious" Belichick before Brady came along. Sure it takes a team to win, but having a QB like Brady makes the requirements on the rest of the team to win much lower. If Pennington was in NE they would be an average to above average team, and may not have won any of the three superbowls. If Brady was in New York there is a good chance we would have won at least one by now.

But hey this is all conjecture and no opinion can be proven right or wrong. Fun to think about though. And don't get me wrong, I hate Brady for what he consistently has done to the Jets, but there is no denying he is a damn good QB....

Oh I agree, Brady is definitely among the top QBs in this league. There's no two players I hate more in sports than Brady and David Ortiz. It just pisses me off, particularly since I was on numerous football teams throughout the years, that the QB gets all the credit. You never hear analysts saying much about the team. It's always, "Well, they have Brady, so they'll beat the Colts." Brady wouldn't piss me off so much if he didn't get every OUNCE of credit, but there's no denying that he's a great QB and will be a HOF when his career is over. Things like someone saying, "Don't replace Jake Plummer, all he does is win," piss me off even more because Plummer deserves just about NO credit as he is one of the worst QBs in the NFL.

I think QB may be the most important position on the field. A QB, along with all of his tangible requirements, must have the intangibles as well to help his team to victory. He must be a field general and make good decisions. But there ARE 21 other guys out there busting their asses off, and they do not receive nearly as much credit as they should. That's all I want...

Compared to other QBs, he really should be getting a ton of credit. Those WRs really aren't very good. He's been making average to bad WRs look like pro bowlers for years now. It seems that the team around him starts choking during losses, you are NOT supposed to drop those passes in the NFL. The other top QBs in the league generally have good players around them, Manning has Harrison and Wayne, Palmer has Ocho Cinco and TJ, even Ben had Ward. The only two QBs that really don't seem to have the names are Brady and McNabb, and at this point McNabb hasn't really won the big one so he gets mentioned less, but even so McNabb takes a ton of criticism in every loss, and not so much credit for the wins. I mean obviously you need teams and at least decent players, NFL level players, but I think McNabb and Brady just make their teams tick to the point that you can't just not give them credit.

I don't think Chad is on that same level, no matter what team he is on. The Jets the past few years had a strong defense, great O-lines, CuMart and either Coles or Santana Moss, and Pennington pretty much put that all to waste. I'm absolutely certain we'd have won an SB at least one of those years if we had Brady, probably in 2004, Brady would have scored more than what was it, 3 offensive points? When Penny fails, we say he needs better players around him, but with Brady, his best players get swapped around and theres no talk about needing a WR back to build chemistry, he's expected to go out there and build it himself with the new guys. I don't think it's any more clear than the Coles-Moss situation. There is absolutely no excuse that Chad couldn't use Santana Moss to a pro bowl caliber level, absolutely none, if you're going to consider him a top flight QB.

Although to be fair, Moss did have a huge year in 2003, mostly with Pennington.

    Brady's Bad Games

Brady does have four interception games. In 2004, the had two, the Pittsburgh game that ended the winning streak, and later in the season against a poor Miami team. Last season's playoff loss in Denver was the first time he had a bad game in the playoffs, but as a Patriots fan I sort of expect him to throw a lemon once or twice a year.

The bad news for the Jets is that he tries to make up for it the week after.

As a result, the Patriots aren't like the Colts. New England generally isn't a threat to run the table, going 19 and 0. On the other hand, smashmouth beats speed in January, and Brady's bad games tend to come in the regular season. While I could see the Colts going 16 and 0 in the regular season, I am doubtful they will get through the playoffs.

But in spite of Brady's bad days, his good days are far more common. He's definitely a keeper.

If my research is not mistaken, before last week the last time he had a 4 pick game was last year against the Chiefs. Ironically, the following week they played the Jets at Gillette and won with Brady going 27/37 and 271 yards....

This is embarrassing. Chad Pennington should not be mentioned in the same breath with Tom 3 superbowl ring's having brady. This is the most stupid post I have ever seen. Please do not give other fans a reason to call us stupid Jet fans!
