He's actually an intriguing RT prospect. Here is his pre draft analysis. Eleite size and athleticism but has to stay healthy and not get stood up from those quick sheldon types. http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/luke-marquardt?id=2539644
Interesting, but the massively tall, long armed NFL tackles rarely work out to be all that good, yet can hang around the league a long time as swing tackles, or really average starters. Jeremy Trueblood from BC comes to mind. It's usually for reasons as alluded go in his weaknesses, but the biggest problem really ends up being the leverage. Even when you think of the taller defensive ends ala Mario Williams, they explode out of a three point stance and immediately have better pad level than the tackle. This makes it easy to drive them back in pass protection, especially when they have slower punches due to the long arms. If he turned into a quality backup it's a win though. We're starving for offensive line depth right now.
These are the kind of signings that will show if Maccagnan is a great GM in the making . Not talking about this kid specifically but finding under the radar players who can contribute and be solid starters or depth are essential to building a winning organization .
