It's not fair to ask Chad to beat the Pats by himself, especially with a suspect running game and no defense. I'm not.

But I am asking that he play a great game within himself. I expect him to give the Jets a chance to steal the game.

I (we) have been banking on the concept that Chad's superior brain and preparation will more than compensate for his physical shortcomings. I want to believe, but I need another dose of religion this weekend because my faith is waning.

It's been 4 years since Chad slayed the dragon in Foxborough; in the interim he's been spanked and put to bed like a good little boy by Belichick and Brady.

Time to roar, Chad, time to roar.

yeah if the Chad comeback story is going to hold any weight he'll at least put up good numbers here, even in a loss.

otherwise, he'll be the guy who came back from an injury and put up great stats for 2 weeks and then went on to beat teams the avg qb could have.

although like you said, qb'ng for a team with our defense isnt too easy to do.

but its time for him to at least be the cerebral qb hes labeled as.

Maybe it's not even the cerebral I'm looking for...I want to see a little blood in his eyes. I thought after watching his career nearly be flushed away he'd come back and look like a warrior, but last weekend (against Cleveland) of all teams, he had that panicked, flustered look that he had vs. Raiders in the playoffs 2002.

I'm waiting for him to get pissed off and take it out on the other team.

You know, it's a quality that Namath had, and it's one of the things that's an answer to the thread, "Why was Namath so good?"

Namath was cool in the face of the barbarians. He would get knocked down and bloodied, face broken, and get up off the turf, and look into the eyes of the defense with a dead eye stare and smile like a crocodile who's about to snap the trap shut.

Chad needs to start scaring the crap out of people, but it's hard to do when you look like Richie Cunningham and throw like Joanie. Maybe next time he gets hurt, it'll be his face and he'll get a nice scar running down the side.

To be fair, he's only played a couple games against them since then.

2003 he didn't play the game up there
2004 they played a close game up there, Chad was playing with the torn shoulder by the second meeting
Last year he didn't take a snap vs New England

So while we haven't beaten New England since that 2002 game, Chad is far from the only reason.

excellent post. I totally agree. It is about time Chad grows up and freakin takes control. People go on and on about his leadership, but when the going gets tough he doesnt step up and deliver. Sure he's a smart quarterback, probably the smartest we've ever had, but he is miles behind both Namath and O'Brien in the "balls" catagory.

Personally I dont care if we win another game the rest of the year against our Division II schedule, I just want Pennington stop getting b*tch-slapped by the Pats and go all out having a day. Hell, Manning has been owned by the Pats his whole career too, but last night he stood up and took the game over. Its about time Pennington does it as well.

I don't expect Chad to be on the field much, as the Pats will run the ball 35+ times.

NY Jets 30, New England 17

By HOWARD ULMAN, AP Sports Writer
    December 23, 2002
FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) -- Chad Pennington showed the New England Patriots something they learned last season. A young quarterback can lead a struggling team on a stretch drive.

Doing an impressive imitation of Tom Brady -- the 2001 version -- Pennington threw three touchdown passes and kept the New York Jets in the playoff race with a 30-17 victory Sunday night.

``He had a big game,'' Jets coach Herman Edwards said. ``Our guys have had that fortitude, coming in here realizing that we had to win it or go home.''

LETS DO IT AGAIN CHADDY BOY!!!

That was a good night. That was right after the Bear disaster (is this a pattern I see here with the Yogis and Patsies back to back) before we won the division.

I'm sure people here will blame Chad anyway if that happens. I don't know how we're stopping their running game, unless everyone gets a transfusion between now and Sunday.

Cant forget that game. I remember Chad running to the endzone with his arm in the air after throwing a TD to LC.

I was at the Jets @ Cleveland game back in 2004. (I live in Ohio) Although the Jets won that ugly low scoring game, Pennington did not look good in that game either.

I do remember us beating the Chargers and we almost beat the Steelers in the playoffs later that same year. I hope we (Chad) finish the season out like 2004.

Didn't Quincy Carter play that game? Maybe I'm confused. If so, that's why Chad didn't look good.
