So I've been too busy to clear up a glitch with an email confirmation for a few months, but now that I have a few minutes this is my take on the Jets early offseason moves, and what I think it means going forward. Beginning with the major signings, I like the signing of Matt Forte. A fluid receiver and precision route runner, he opens up the playbook quite a bit more than Ivory did. While he was a quality running back, and did improve in receiving, he never properly fit Gailey's offense. Forte is going to be another incarnation of Fred Jackson in Buffalo, and will become the 3rd receiver on the team. Keeping Powell is important, but he plays essentially the same role as Forte so he will probably see most of his snaps in relief. Steve McClendon is Snack's replacement, while Jarvis Jenkins is a backup DE/Sub-package starter. With Mo, Sheldon, and Leonard all on the field for the most part, we just can't invest money in a nose tackle. Jenkins will probably play a lot of snaps with 4 man front packages (most of the time I'll bet). We could't pay Snacks, that's just a given. Regarding Brick, I think a restructured deal will be reached. He's scheduled to count $14 million against the cap, which is unacceptable. Brick knows that if the Jets draft a Tackle, they will cut him. He's a very smart guy and he knows staying with the same team is best for him. If he were cut, he's leaving a ton of money on the table. What people don't understand is if he's cut, he gets no more money from the Jets. Even though he has dead money on the cap, he's already physically received that money in the form of a bonus. He has an $8.6 mm base salary, plus a $1 mm roster bonus. If the Jets cut him, they save almost $10 mm and combine a cheaper vet with a 1st round tackle, it's doable for them but Brick walks away $10 mm poorer. The Jets have made him a wealthy man, and I'm hoping there's enough good will leftover to push a deal through. Don't be surprised about how the Jets' have handled the Brick, Mo, and Ryan Fitzpatrick contracts. Many people think Brick's lack of re-structuring is because they can't get a deal done. What has to be realized is that having minimal cap space is actually a bargaining chip when talking to Mo and Fitz. They are able to say "hey, we'd love to pay you but all this money is all tied up right now, oh darn..." As soon as Brick restructures and that space is available, thats bargaining power for the agents. I think Fitz will sign a deal and we'll see Brick restructure shortly thereafter. Don't look to Marshall for a restructure, he outplayed his contract pretty significantly this year so it would be insulting to ask him to take less. Revis' deal is front loaded, essentially making it practical to have him on the team down the line as he ages. restructuring his deal would essentially turn a good contract into a shitty contract. Getting his big money out of the way this year will make it possible to pay Sheldon or Leonard in a couple years, so its a tradeoff but a wise one in my opinion. Restructuring doesn't work the way you're describing it. The player isn't asked to take less. Part of his base salary is converted into a signing bonus, and the player gets that money immediately. The cap hit is then prorated across the remaining life of the contract.
Just a little question, with Jenkins, McLendon, Draft and about 10M for Fitz, we are 20M over the cap, a Brick contract restructuration isn't enough. So we need an other move, Trade Wilkerson or do other restructuration What do u think about this ? PS : Sorry for my poor english, i'm french and i hope you can understand me when i'm writting
There's plenty of people on here who are less coherent than you, and their first language is English! I suspect Mo is either traded or signs a cap friendly deal with us when he realises the market isn't going to give him what he wants. A few more cuts and restructures, including Brick, and we will be Ok. Mac isn't signing these players without having a plan in place.
You're right but that's what happens when you blow all your money on a washed up CB like they did last year..this GM is no different than any of the others we have had.
Thanks My problem with the restructuration that we will have a lot of SC in 2017 and we gonna to break this space with restructuration.... I didn't like the idea to trade Wilkerson but to me, it's the best for both, he has his money and we have a 2nd round pick, SC and not meany restructuration to do

I don't see Wilk getting traded, We want high picks for him in a drafter loaded with good d-lineman. And on top of that whoever takes Mo has to take that 100M contract he's looking for into consideration as well.
