This may mean we go with Forte, resign Powell, and Zac Stacy who's under contract along with a drafted RB in the 4th or 5th round. Or draft Elliot in the 1st round and go with Forte, Elliot and Zac Stacy.
Love it. I had this feeling he would end up in New England when I read that he would take a team friendly deal to play for a contender.........Glad he's a JET!
Interesting question...But take a look at Forte's beef with Marshall, he sees now how Marshall has improved the Jets as a leader http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...ck-jets-wr-brandon-marshall-article-1.2325968 From August 2015 Bears RB Matt Forte fires back at Jets WR Brandon Marshall: ‘Sometimes Brandon couldn’t hold himself accountable’ Marshall said recently that he felt he was the only one in the Bears organization with the “huevos” to hold Cutler accountable last year. “Sometimes Brandon couldn’t hold himself accountable,” Forte said in response on the Rich Eisen Show. Asked what his reaction is to Marshall’s comments about Cutler, Forte said, “I hear a lot of animosity and a lot of bad feelings coming from that relationship.” “He was in Denver with Jay, and then he switched teams and then he came here,” the Bears running back added. “And things didn’t work out, and when stuff doesn’t work out sometimes, feelings are let out like that.” Since Marshall has arrived in New York, the outspoken receiver has preached chemistry as the key to success with his new team. Forte also felt that Marshall’s weekly appearances on Showtime’s “Inside the NFL” also caused friction within the organization, though it personally did not bother the running back. “I didn’t have an issue with it as long as he got back in time, was taking care of his body, and came to play every Sunday,” Forte said. “But I guess a lot of other people had issue with that and thought his mind wasn’t on football first. And whenever people start to question that, you have to answer that question.”
Unless Powell was asking for crazy money, imo trading Powell for Forte is a mistake. I'm hoping that Powell will still be back. Stacy is awful and should not be brought back.
We need to keep Powell or get a RB before round 4 (2 or 3). All of you can dream but Zeke will be long gone before 20.
I won't judge this until I see the numbers. I think Forte is a great football player and a great guy, and I'm excited about his pass-catching ability. But he is on the wrong side of 30, so I hope this isn't a multi-year deal.
Word is Powell and the Jets are negotiating on a contract. Let's hope he stays. Bringing Forte in to me is a plus if it's for one year.
Even at Forte's age...he's better than Powell. Doesn't necessarily mean he's cheaper. But I'm sure he's cheaper than Ivory's puported $6 million/year
a few years ago we acquired a versatile RB from the Chicago Bears that was over 30 and a little under appreciated around the league. I hope this one works out the same as that one did
Ed Werner just tweeted he's hearing Forte signed for $2 million a year less than Ivory. Being that Ivory signed for $6 million a year, I'd be completely cool with Forte at $4 on a 2-3 year deal. Anxious to see the complete financials
