Yep.. just like Chrebet. He may even wait until June, so he doesn't have to be 1 of the 2 men the Jets can cut in March and spread it over 2 yrs. In June, you can do that for anyone.

FA is a good way to plug holes. Its a good short term approach. If we do target FA's I would like them to be young so they can be productive for a few years. Most FA's are old though and thats how you get screwed. They start to suck and you have them signed to a huge contract.

i agree with you to an extent.

but think about the athletes we have on D right now who may not be understanding the scheme; and if Mangini wanted to make it more complex, maybe that's a precluding factor. i'm just not buying into every problem on D relates to the lack of a 3-4 NT. obviously, that's a major contributor to the D's woes, but we also need guys who understand the system.

yes, i think we need talented guys, athletes, aggressive players, etc. but at the same time, we need guys who are disciplined and smart enough to grasp the intricacies of Mangini's schemes. while the D isn't/doesn't seem complex this year, i think Mangini will eventually try to develop that.

    cheers

free agency is what you make of it. Obviously we don't wanna go the redskins route. But keep in mind that we acquired Curtis Martin as a FA.

Spending the money wisely can do wonders for a franchise.

Im pretty sure we traded for him. Or did we sign him to an offer sheet and then we had to give compensation or sumthin?

Yeah let's all cheer cause Birdbrain Boobway signed Martin and Chrebet to 8 year deals at age 30 and now the only cap hit we're taking was the ridiculous signing bonuses. We ate the rest of Chrebet's and Marvin Jones's contracts/bonuses this year, and next year we get to eat the last part of Martin's signing bonus. Thank you Birdbrain Boobway!

I'm on board with the with the you don't win championships with free agency but you build through the draft and sign FA's to fill key positions. I'm sure we will be frugal just like the Pats when it comes to FA's. We'll sign what we need for as little as possible and stay under the cap so we can reamain competetive. Of course a guy named Brady also helps them with that.....

Dwight Freeney, Lance Briggs, and Cato June are all free agents this offseason.

Second only to "Tangini Guy," which is really just a "Belioli Guy," which is really just a "Parcells Guy."

6'1 240, good against the run and decent in coverage...Strong guy who would be an upgrade over Hobson.

June is 227, no way he could play OLB without getting dominated by a TE or tackle...He fits perfect in the system he is in now, Cover-2 weak side linebacker.

Freeney, as well is great in his system...But standing him up, who knows how he would be, not as good, and he is not good against the run. Indy I assume will keep him though.

We'll see what the draft brings, but FA is the place to go for immediate help on the interior defensive line... That position in particular usually takes a season or two for a player to become a proficient...

I would look for a DT, grinder G/RT, and then it's a matter of looking at who's out there. After a season of the Tangini Era we'll see another large turnover as the underachievers from this year are ridden of.

Draft a pass rusher or two, a BIG DT (If he catches on quick - great, but I expect him to fill stopgap roles the first season), and then best talent available.
