Just heard the 20/20 on the FAN and said that Mangini would be on with Mike and the Maddogg at 5:05 today. I assume to talk about Martin, among other things. You can listen live at WFAN.com.
Oh so they're taking a break from Giant/Coughlin fellatio to actually talk about that other coach in New York? Remember when WFAN was the Jets radio network, Fatcesa couldn't stand the Jets though and after constant bashing/ignoring he finally got his way and they changed flagship stations. They're trying to do the same thing with the Mets now too. Bash them enough, they'll leave, then WFAN becomes the Yankees flagship station. They also hate SNY for being the Mets/Jets channel.
On overall improvement...Likes how hard Jets work since he's gotten here...Focus was great in the meetings, great practices. Sent a complain to the NFL, along with other plays throughout the game...It's internal, cannot elaborate on it. On the timeout...Tried to buy some time, wanted more clarity, wasn't getting enough information. Wanted to see if anything could be done...Bottom line you can't be upset about a judgement call, 130 prior plays to change that outcome...Likes how they fought despite being down 20-3. What part of team has surprised the most?...Happy with the rookie class, identified characteristics in the draft. Belives in smart and tough players. Every game is where he learns something, along with the rest of the team...Have to work on consistency, they try to work on it every week. On QB situation so far, considering where it was...Likes Chad's awawreness. Chad does a nice job in situational football, running to the huddle on a questionable call and snapping the ball... Leon - Has been very pleased. Huge strides from his rookie camp, he's taking the coaching, sat with Martin, gets better each week, very pleased. WR core after the catch...Laveranues has that toughness you want...Impressed with Jerricho, even from last year, all he does is work and produce, carved out nice role... Rookie OLineman...Both getting better and learning. Nobody they're gonna play where they're gonna get off easy, tough matchups every week. Have had to deal with alot, and have done well. Helping eachother out, very good listeners who like to be coached. Guys he inherited on defense, switching to 3-4...Practice needs to carry over more to the games...Need more reps. Do alot of different things while making progress. Schotty - Helps out Brian on what hurts the defense, gives him insight. Go over what went and what didn't work well...Work together very well. Go through alot of different situations every day, review everything. Talk alot, exchange ideas constantly. Why Curtis didn't retire?...He's an amazing guy, tough decision, wanted to leave window open...In typical Curtis fashion, he didn't want to be a discraction next week, so he made his decision today. Very sincere. Loves how Martin helps out Leon Washington, does the behind the scenes stuff. The handshake with Belichick? Compared to him and Crennell...Can only control things that I do, Romeo is a special guy, good coach and good person. Never want to lose a game, always happy for him. Disappointed about outcome of Patriots game, only cares about the Jets. Chill out this week? Watch some Colts/Pats?...Definately going to watch that game, gonna spend time with kids, maybe head to the city, to get away from football for a little bit. On pressuring Manning...Try to vary the looks to give yourself a shot, he's a great one, tears up alot of different teams each week...Had good plan on 2 final drives against the Colts, but Peyton is as good as anybody, in hindsight would of done some things different...Very important to have physical DBs and a good pass-rush on being successful against Peyton Manning. Have to break his rythym in some way. Worst loss of the 4?...Jacksonville was the one that stings. We all contributed to it, didn't do anything well at all, very disappointing.
This does not make a lot of sense as the Yankees flagship station is 880-WCBS, the FAN's sister station. So essentially the same company, Francesa's company, has the broadcasting rights to both NY baseball teams.
He seemed loose and funny - but serious about his work. I really like this guy, and Mike and Chris seem to also. Mike especially said that both Mangini and Tannenbaum have youth and energy - and most important - a plan that they are following. He honestly seems impressed with Mangini and the Jets' YOUNGBLOODS. Good interview by the unusually fair duo...
WFAN put it online for anyone who missed. Check it out, it's a good listen - http://wfan.com/chrismikeaudio/
