Looks like the Jets are tagging Abe again. http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1140156367242560.xml&coll=1 Also in the article... Next week, the Jets are planning to release several veterans, including cornerback Ty Law, tackles Jason Fabini and Scott Gragg, guard Pete Kendall, fullback Jerald Sowell and quarterback Jay Fiedler.
Some more confirmation In another development, the Jets have decided to place the franchise tag on defensive end John Abraham, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. They have until Thursday to make it official. It prevents Abraham from being an unrestricted free agent, and it enables the Jets to trade him after March 3. Abraham, an unhappy "franchise" player in 2005, is said to be furious. He has told friends that he doesn't want to play for the Jets anymore. This was an expected move, although some industry sources felt there was a slight chance the Jets would not tag Abraham because of the cost - an $8.3 million tender. The Jets are about $26 million over the projected cap, which goes into effect March 3. Ultimately, the Jets probably will wind up trading Abraham, which would eliminate his salary http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/392474p-332869c.html FRANCHISE TAG FOR ABRAHAM. The Jets have notified defensive end John Abraham that the club intends to place the franchise tag on him for the second straight year. The franchise tag would give him a one-year deal for $8 million but would restrict his ability to leave as a free agent. At the end of last season, he said he would request a trade if franchised again. - KEN BERGER http://www.newsday.com/sports/print...2203feb18,0,880793.story?coll=ny-sports-print
Canizzaro is out to lunch.Mark spends too much time eating As for John Abraham, the Jets have not yet placed the franchise tag on him, according to sources close to the defensive end. If they do, it will cost the Jets $8.3 million this year after paying him $6.7 million last year. Then he'll almost certainly be used as trade bait in a sign-and-trade scenario, because Abraham has lost his patience with the Jets http://www.nypost.com/sports/jets/60116.htm Cimini,Hutchinson and Berger have written in the last couple of days the Jets will place their franchise tag on Abraham by Feb 23 but Marky is clueless as usual
If Abe is franchised, I think he would be a fool not to sign immediately. He is not going to get that kind of money from another team. Plus, he would become an UFA in what might be an uncapped year. If he really wants to stick it to the Jets and get the most $$$, he should waste no time in signing that contract.
Yawn, get the money hungry Abe off this team, maybe he will learn to play with pride and work hard to stay healthy for the TEAM and not to cash in after the season.
All of these moves are exactly what we've been saying will happen for 2 months... so really this is just a confirmation of it all. Abe to KC for 1st and 3rd rounders.
Every player on this team is money hungry, every player is in the NFL is. Do you go into work every day thinking.....I cant wait to work as hard as I possibly can for my boss even though the guy across the street is willing to give you more job security, money etc. No, nobody does. He played very very well this season and even though his sack number were slightly down he was the only consistent presence on our line. Letting him go is a mistake however I dont think he wants to be here anymore.l
Forbid him for wanting money when he isnt getting a ring. The only players that would sacrafice money is to help their team and get them into the SB. Look at the Pats, people take pay cuts to play there becuase they have a great chance at a ring. Here he doesnt. So he's suppose ot take a pay cut for a team that isn't going anywhere and won't help him get a ring? Right.... If he was really money hungry he'd welcome this. He'd make more money signing tags than he would a long term deal.
