Falco, I love when you post. You're so lovingly clueless.

Because you're always "The always one."

That guy that just can't help himself about being that goofball homer that will defend some empty point to the death when everyone else knows it's obvious.

Vilma makes some good points, and others have argued, but you can't. Because you're the one.

    I'll take the bait.

Having well over $100 million to spend does not equate to having a much better roster.

You do realize teams have been spending this kind of money for years and it never equates to anything. The Dolphins just did it as well. They spent a ton of money in the off-season. How did that pan out? The Eagles have done it. Put together what people called a dream team. How did that pan out?

Brandon Marshall and Fitzpatrick were not handed to us. Mac made those moves. He traded for both guys. Took a huge gamble with a wide receiver who had been through three teams known to a few as a cancer. Took a QB who has been a journey man his entire career who was coming off a significant injury to his leg. He took those gambles. Gave up draft picks for them. Were they high picks? No. But a pick is a pick.

He went out and signed Carpenter to the offensive line, which was a great move, IMO. He then changes the biggest weakness on this team into one of the biggest strengths and still manages to complete contracts that do not tie our hands in the future.

To say anyone in street clothes could have put together a talented roster, is so false. Money has been thrown around in this league for years. Where has it gotten those teams? Is it still early, absolutely. But to sit here and not smile at some of the moves this guy made is crazy!

He turned a joke of a team into a 10-6 club that was one game out of the playoffs and two Buffalo wins from taking the division. Hard not to credit him

I stated the good with the bad. I'm sorry you're so short-sighted that reality blinds you.

Going into the league year I'd bet we have one of if not the oldest roster in the league. I'm not ready to anoint Maccagnan if he can't build longevity. Tannenbaum was one of the most talked about NFL executives when he replaced Bradway and throughout 2008 through 2010. He mortgaged the entire future to build a roster to hedge his bet and try to win a championship by 2011 on the shoulders of a 22 year old Southern California quarterback probably traveling East for the third time in his life. It was ballsy and it was fun and it ended in four shit seasons with Tannenbaum probably going back to his accounting days following this season.

Revis and his flashy $17 million a year salary was a top headline this offseason and made everyone cream thinking about getting 09 Revis back. Now we could possibly piss away our next prime year elite defender for an aging superstar that proved to be solid but nowhere near his salary worth and virtually uncuttable. Do you want Mo for the next 4 years til he's 30 or Revis for the next 2 until he's 33?

I've said it a million times. The NFL is a trendy league. It saw the Seahawks dominate because of what looked to be a dominant cornerback. They took for granted the cohesion of the unit being the truth behind the elite level of play of the unit and what happens? They throw one of the richest contracts in CB history at Sherman, forget about Chancellor see him holdout and watch them sacrifice one of their best playoff attributes in homefield advantage because their strong safety held out and their defense was disorganized as hell.

I said it back when Idzik was around. He was way too conservative for anyone in the NFL's liking and it bit him in the ass because the product was shit for two years. But he sort of had the right idea in withholding dollars from the cornerback position while the rest of the NFL was flinging millions their way. Go back to 2002 Superbowl and look at the following years draft after Warren Sapp dominated the NFL and you tell me how many 3-techniques went in the first round. 5, including 4 in the top 12 picks I believe. Why? Because it was and still is a copy cat league.

The whole point is you don't be the executive with a fortune of cap space and sink it all into one defender, especially not one that plays in the back 4. I think a good free safety is as important as any position in the NFL but it's still one of the lower paid positions in the NFL, and for good reason. If you're going to sink quarterback money into any position it needs to be someone who is going to hit the quarterback and that player needs to be entering his second contract. Not his third or fourth.

Russell Wilson makes what $3.7 million less per year than Revis? That's horrible business.

The point of the whole rant is Revis better bring his fucking A-game next year and prove his worth. This year and next year were/are our true years to compete UNLESS Maccagnan proved he can draft over these next two seasons. THEN he deserves executive of the year because this roster is going to fall apart when Harris/Mangold/Brick/Marshall/Decker/Revis/Fitz are all free agents within the same period and we will not even want most of them because they're going to all except for Decker be 32+.

Think outside the box of the awesome season this was. Look at the positions with age and tell me who replaces them. I hope Maccagnan answers my questions this offseason and like I said if we can someone maintain ourselves through 2018 without falling on our face he deserves the award.

He deserves credit but he could be Tannenbaum. We're not sure yet. All indications are that he's not but our roster is old as shit.

I'm also so freaking frustrated by the fact that you two boneheaded are focusing on the fact that I said anyone in street clothes could put together a roster with that money. Have you never heard of hyperbole? Obviously you or I would fuck up the verbage of a contract costing a franchise tens of millions of dollars to an undated free agent camp body. Obviously you or I might sign a head case Ndamukong Suh to one of the richest per year contracts in NFL history. Oh wait. It's been done.

The point is that drafting is a lot harder than allocating dollars to free agency. That's what makes Ozzie Newsome, and Ted Thompson great general managers and it looks to be Kevin Colbert and possibly Steve Keim great future GM's. Keim may have committed the cornerback sin too with Peterson but he also may have a Superbowl roster this year.

Yes he hit in year one. Let's see how those contracts affect what they do with Wilkerson, Harrison, and Richardson, and if the production of the free agent signings continues in the same direction. Hopefully we go 12-4 and win the division. I'm just not seeing that trend.

Macc didn't have blinders on when making those big FA signings last season. Before signing Revis (and Cro, Skine, Gilchrist, Fitz, Carp) he'd already penciled in 2016 and beyond. If he trades Mo, it won't be a gut wrenching decision. It will be part of his Master Plan he laid out last year. Time will tell.....

We'll definitely owe a debt of gratitude to Casserly and Ron Wolf if the succeeding years prove to be as good/better than year one.

Excellent post! Some posters just don't get it. Evidently, they don't understand how our D is supposed to work, the cap, or how to put together a team. They just want their favorite player regardless of the consequences. That's why they're fans and Mac is working in the NFL as a GM. I'll trust him every day.

The problem with your argument is that if you look at the contracts that were signed, they are not backloaded. Most of our vets will not factor into the long term plan if their play declines significantly. Simply because of the way he has structured these contracts.

Cromartie is a good example. The overall contract looks like a lot but it was really a one year deal with guaranteed money. The other signings are frontloaded contracts to ensure that we have an absolute out after 1-2 years, in case of decline.

We did not pay any of these guys by means of mortgaging our future. If you really look at it, you can see the plan, its calculated for the long term already.

Now, nothing is guaranteed but to have a solid plan and vision in place is the only say to ensure that this team has the best chance possible at being competitive for the long term goal.

As far as putting money into the secondary, this doesn't strike me as a copy cat dilemma, it is just the cost of the NFL for a coach that NEEDS good corners to run his scheme the best way be can. Fortunately the coach has a GM that is willing to do whatever he can to ensure that his coach has the players he needs to run his scheme to its utmost potential.

We have a mixed bag of players, with different ages to go along with that. It's not a problem if he keeps treating FA in a calculated and smart manner, to go along with his BPA approach in the draft that will/should infuse much needed youth into some of these crucial positions.

With that, comes cheaper contracts, for younger player contributions.

His first draft was a productive one, there is nothing to suggest that shouldn't continue.

Overall, the guy had a hell of an offseason for this team. If you look at these moves, the draft, the contracts, you can see the type of impact it has already had for this team.

It's something I don't know that I have felt better about, bunch of cap space or not.

I believe he absolutely deserved this award without a doubt in my mind when you look at the full picture of all the moves he made. It's impressive.

What other GM deserved it if mac didn't?? very few teams had as busy as a off-season as we had + a winning record. Plus he's a rookie GM.

    Well deserved! Magic Mike!!

Now this summer is where he can assure he's the real deal. Last year was checkers, this year it's time to play chess. Lets see what he got.

I don't think executive of the year should go to an executive of a non-playoff team myself. Maccagnan made some good moves and some questionable moves. He certainly improved the team in the short term but I personally think "executive of the year" should be held to a higher standard.

Oh please, any other year we would be in the playoffs. The turn around from the previous year was extremely impressive.

What does it matter if your in the playoffs or not when it comes to executive of the year?

You can clearly see the impact these moves had on this team, many different moves to steer us in a positive direction, Mac hit on just about everything he did last offseason.

Who else deserved the award in the playoffs?

I just have a hard time believing any other GM had more of an impact on their team then Mac did for the Jets.

To be fair I'm really getting sick of the scheme argument with corners and such. We've been hearing the same thing since Rex was hited. EVERY NFL defense operates better with better players at X position. Fill in the X with whatever you want. Carolina has the best corner in the league and a blitzing defense and they give up a ton of big plays. Do you think they're going to go out there and sign another big time corner to pair with Revis?

You're partially correct in the backloaded contracts. I just think the Revis money could've been used on two players, and ones that much closer to their prime.

The whole point is wasn't Tannenbaum basically the executive after his 2006 and 2007 offseasons? If we miss the playoffs next year doesn't this team look awfully similar to the Chip Kelly Eagles setup for failure in year 3? We'll see. I'm just not sold yet. Maybe I will be after this offseason.

I used to be very reactive in my praise. Not so much anymore. Bowles has more to prove to me than Mac does too.

Give him executive of the year this year. Go for it. Is he going to be our GM for the next 15 years? Or the next 3? Everyone is incredibly patient with him because he spent a ton of money and the team improved. We'll see how patient the fan base remains if the wheels fall off the next two years because of the age of our team.

Mac daddy! Great first year as GM, bringing us back to the realm of respectability... Executive of the year, definitely well deserved.
