Good decision by Curtis. It's time to get on with his life after football. Enjoy it Curt. You have enough money to do whatever you want, whenever you please. Its a big world man. Go get yourself a big assed slice of it. You deserve it pardner!!
I think we all knew this was coming, I hoped there was a chance he could come back but this is expected. He will be missed. Curtis is a future HOFer and one of the best people in all of sports. He has been around the facility helping out Barlow and Washington and hopefully he'll continue to have a role w/ the organization. He will be missed as a palyer though, it was alot of fun watching him play hard every week, never showing up opponents, never a bad article written about him, never in trouble- he is the model by which all players in any sport should follow.
Curtis squeezed every down he could get out of those legs over a decade. He played in a lot of pain and he ground out a huge number of carries and yards in a sport that measures both in much smaller amounts than he achieved. Other than Joe Klecko he is the Jet I have had the most respect for in my 35 years of watching the team. Klecko of course was the other guy who kept coming back from pain and adversity to do amazing things on the field. They should both be in the hall of fame.
One of the classiest guys to ever step on to a football field. It will be sad when it is finally official but it is the best thing for him. See you in Canton in 5 years!
Could have easily taken over third place on the list (All time rushers). Why is Mangini playing coy with this eventual announcement. They have until next Tuesday I think to wrap up his season. With the lines current state I don’t think he would enjoy any type of success this year anyway!
What a shame. I hope he can stay with the Jets in some capacity for next season being as though he has apparently been a great tutor to Washington.
Knowing how tight the office is on injuries, I'm amazed the Jets even acknowleged the injury was to Martin's knee. I figured they'd just say below the head!
Its a pity to see such a good guy have to leave on these terms, but its better then him forcing a comeback and getting even more hurt as a result.
IT sucks how he never got a Ring. Of all the players in the NFL i think he is the most deserving one that should get a ring. He was close until Doug Brien, Herm n Hacket F'ked him over
Curtis Martin, RB NYJ News: Jets coach Eric Mangini said Wednesday that RB Curtis Martin will not play for the team this season. Martin has a "bone-on-bone" condition in his right knee that has prevented him from practicing in full with the Jets. However, Martin is not retiring and hopes to play for the Jets in the future. Martin will be a mentor of sorts for the Jets running backs for the remainder of 2006. I'm not exactly sure what this means, and I certainly don't hold out hope that he will someday carry the ball again.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2645525&POLL263=8 its also official that 15% of the football fans out there are completely clueless morons!!! they say curtis martin isnt a hall of famer...check the poll on the page
Although I am holding out for the official announcement, I've pretty much resigned myself to his retirement. He retires as my favorite Jet of all time, and I will miss seeing him play. I only have 2 jerseys, and both are #28. You're the greatest, Curt, and I promise I will be at your induction ceremony in Canton, wearing an authentic #28.
He is my All-Time Favorite Jets player as well. I will definitely miss watching him in the Green and White. :martin:
