Good move for San Francisico. Everyone says Kelly gutted the Eagles roster, but he attempted to resign Maclin. And Lesean Mccoy wasn't great this year(no one would have done anything behind that offensive line), Evan Mathis is a shell of himself, and Brandon Boykin can't even start for the Steelers. I would say his mistake was cutting Desean Jackson, but other than I don't see what he did wrong. His mistakes this year was going from an inside zonish scheme toone that focused more on crack tosses and buck sweeps to avoid the terrible OL play. If he's given decent gards, which San Francisico has, he may be succesful . But the idea that his offense or system can't succeed in the NFL is silly, considering the fcat that in each of his first two seasons the Eagles were a top five offensee with backup quarterbacks and the scheme was altered this season. I think the Titans should have jumped on Kelly, but hey I guess Mike Murlarkey who has proven too be a bad HC, was too much to pass on.
A freak hit was the reason why Mariota suffered one MCL injury, but there would have been no expectations for Kelly. Thatt was the spot; young quality QB, with the first pick in the draft, in a terrible decision for an organization that hasn't done anything. The Niners are only two years removed from an NFC Championship and he's still walking in the shadow of Harbaugh.
Funny, a year ago he touted as a genius and I remember fans here wanted him when it looked as if he would be avaliable. He didn't do a good this season, but his first two seasons displayed good coaching. Puting together top five offenses with Nick Foles and Mark Sanchez at the hel is amazing. Firing a coach after one bad season, is how you become the Cleveland Browns.
I tend to agree. Chip has a hell of an offensive mind and seems to have a good eye for incoming talent outside of his first round picks although he did not have final say on picks his first two years. Getting rid of Maclin, Jackson and McCoy was really not his downfall. The problem was his downgrade at quarterback and I'd bet money he was doing everything he could to get Mariota. I think he's going to be a successful coach if he learns to tweak the whole pace element of his offense. Running as many plays as possible is not optimal for a 16 game NFL schedule. It sets up shootouts in college, whereas NFL defenses are way too good to be giving up 45 points a game every week. I don't think there's any denying he's a great football mind despite what some players say. McCoy and Jackson hate him because he hates lazy players. Must be a racist thing because a coach hates laziness.
Chip and Kap, that's going to work out just fine. Hah. He's getting traded. Gabbert is Chip's type of guy.
Mark my words, they'll come back and revive the thread in 3 years... You can take that to the bank. Kelly is good with kids who want a nfl job, he hasn't been so good with nfl players who want a paycheck. Kap is probably his best option as QB, Chip may do well with him.
I think this is a major boom or bust hiring, people seem to be so sure of Chip being a bad coach- but I really dont see it that way. Too quick to forget his early success with the Eagles. A lot of speculation about Kaep now but I wouldn't be surprised to see them take Paxton Lynch in the draft (assuming hes availabe) and just use Gonzo as a holdover.
I heard that as soon as he was hired, he attempted to trade all of SF's good players away. Too bad they don't have any.
