No more whining...4-4 is pretty darn good!

Except for a few posters who believe the Jets are going 16-0 every year, no one in their right mind could have predicted a 4-4 start for the Jets this year.

That is pretty darn good considering the Herm Edward's disaster of a year ago and the fact that there has been so much turnover this year. Between new players, coaching staff and offensive/defensive philosphy changes, a 4-4 record at the bye is realistically the best we could have hoped for.

Given all that we should be happy...not satisfied...just happy that this team is 4-4. Bottomline is that at best we are an average team that for the most part plays up to and down to the level of competition. That is to be expected of a young rebuilding team with so much turnover.

A realistic finish of 8-8 is something we should all be rooting for. Hopefully the Browns loss will put to rest some of the delusional knuckleheads dreaming of 10-6 and playoff runs. The Jets have been in 7 of 8 games this year and could be easily 0-8 or 7-1 with a few bad or good breaks here or there. That is the sign of a .500 team...and before the season started everyone here would be drooling over an 8-8 record.

SO cool the outlandish expectations of playoff runs and 10-6 records. Instead sit back and appreciate this team for what it is: a hard working team, without the best talent, that continues to fight no matter what the score or the level of competition. I think we are seeing the foundation of something really good being put into place this year.

Yes 4-4 is great! However as most fans do we sometimes raise our expectations higher then we should. I was expecting a 5 win season. After getting some early wins I was expecting us to beat Cleveland. Hopefully Mangini has plans to revamp the D during the bye . Overall I'm happy with the job Mangin's done so far.

I can live with 4-4. It’s a lot better then where we were predicted to be. 5-3 would feel a lot better thoe.We should all be used to this by now strange, tragic, and disappointment are all tied up with the jets. Iv been at this so a long time now so I have my little rituals to help me deal with the up's and down’s, and after seeing new England perform last night I think we got some real problems that wont be worked out by the time we play them. I would have much rather lost the game outright then go down the way we did.

We agree for a change. This makes sense. We all would have signed for 4-4. Of course, when we're sitting 4-3, we want to be 5-3, but before the season, we all would have signed for 4-4 except RobA who would not have signed for 7-1.

4-4 is a fine record for what we thought in Septemeber. But being that close to 5-3 is huge. The JETS need some of these 4-3 teams like Jax, KC and Cinci to lose.

Then we NEED TO BEAT THE PATS. As we all know from the first game a SPECIAL TEAMS and DEFENSE are huge. If we can pull a turnover and 2 great special teams play we might have a shot

We can't whine about the Force out anymore?

Before this season started I said that the Jets were gonna go 9-7. I thought less of this rebuilding year than most I guess. I'm allowed to be a little pissed.

These posters arent whining b/c they expect a 16-0 season, they're mad at the way we are losing. The losses vs. Indy and the Pats we could live with b/c we fought until the end against those teams. The key thing about those losses is we gained a lil' respect from around the league.

But the losses vs. the Jags and the Browns were a different story. The Jags just spanked us and made the Jets look like crap to say the least. We just didnt compete. Against the Browns, we couldnt get anything done on offense and defense until the final minutes of the game and add the screwjob by the refs to make it another bad loss for the Jets.

Main thing i want is the Jets to prove we are a team to be reckoned with. But when lose like we did vs. the Jags and Browns, its impossible to make that statement.

i'm not happy, but it's not too bad either....i predicted 5-3 at the bye (if we beat cleveland i would have nailed them all) and 10-6 for the year......the part where i went wrong is that i thought our d would keep us in very low scoring games, and penny would do just enough to win those......it seems that our d has been our weakness, and we have pretty much lived and died with pennington......i really hope this bye gives mangini a good amount of time to figure out what works the best on d and possibly shaking it up a little.....i really think we will see a more aggresive and improved d in the 2nd half of the season, atleast i hope

I've been saying all along that all I expect is progress, and I have seen it. The defense still has a long way to go, and I believe that if they were playing a 4-3 similar to what they played last year, this team would probably be 6-2, but I suppose that is irrelevant.

I'm really happy with being 4-4. It's just tough to take when that was a game we should have won. But going 4-4 was the best I thought we could do. Now we need to find a way to go 5-3 in the 2nd half of the season. If we can go 6-2 we just might make the playoffs!!

I never would have expected a team with three mannequins on the defensive line to win four games, so I guess this is a positive....

Once Chad was healthy and w/ our easy sched 4-4 was mroe than reasonable. We SHOULD be 6-2 as we should have won Sunday and we should have beaten Indy.

I am satisfied not happy with 4-4 the jets should be 5-4 or 6-3. The browns game was a nightmare the jets played down to their level. The colts game still stings wish we had that one back

I love this post, outlandish expectations nobody in their right mind could have predicted a 4 & 4 record. Do you realize you called the Jets at best an average team and we have played 5 teams so far that are either 1 & 6 or 2 & 5 and are at best crap teams? Why would somebody have to be out of their right mind to think that an average team playing below average competition for the most part might be 5 & 3 or at least 4 & 4 at the bye? Particularly since most people on this board think Pennington is a top 10 NFL QB and is healthy and he is back to where he was at the begining of 04?

This is a once in a lifetime schedule, any fan who thinks an average team can't have a winning record with this schedule doesn't think we are an average team, they think we have one of the worst teams in the league. Which is it?

Half the teams in the league are rebuilding and most of them don't have a smart veteran QB who most Jet fans think is one of the best, ranked 5 to 8 QB's in the league. If you didn't expect this team to be at least 4 & 4 at the bye, you were underselling the team.

4-4 is great?! And no one could've predicted that?

4-4 is not great, because now the jets must go 6-2 down the stretch. Which will be pretty difficult. The Jets now must put away all the easy teams plus an upset, and hopefully we're in.

Root for playoffs, not for .500 season, as a .500 season gets you nothing.
