I have supported our Ivy Leager all year: Intelligence, Leadership, Gutsy Plays, Composure, Record Season with Marsh/Decker, worked well with Gaileys system and with Bowles. One awful pass should not wipe out the incredible positive he was for the team year and his progression over the last half of the season was one of the main reasons we were in contention Week 17. It's the best I've felt about the QB position since the week Favre tore his bicep tendon. _
As it should be. The best thing bowles did this year was keep the qb position quiet. Never gave an opportunity for the media to start a controversy. This is just the next logical step. What would be interesting is who he would name if fitzy doesn't return. Doubt we see that scenario
He deserves to start in 2016 but there will be added pressure on him to guide the team to the playoffs. I don't think Fitz would get Year 3, if Years 1 and 2 are non-playoff seasons. Also, as much as the Bills game sucked, it helped our bargaining position for Fitz's contract. He cost himself some money, for sure.
Fitzpatrick is the perfect stop gap for the Jets right now. The players have bought into him, the coaching staff has bought into him and there's room to just groom a young guy next year. Hopefully the Jets spend a pick somewhere on a promising QB in the draft and then we go into camp with Fitzpatrick and 2 young guys looking to make an impression and maybe start in 2017. The last couple of minutes sucked in Buffalo but that's no reason to give up a competent stop gap QB for whatever is behind curtain #3.
Shouldn't reach FA. Deal should be done soon with hopefully a lot of incentives and a lower cap number. If Geno is gone someone else should be brought in to compete.
I definitely think Fitz should be brought back, but I disagree with just handing him the starting job. What happened to the competition mantra? Petty, Geno or whomever else is their 3rd QB should get the opportunity to compete for the starting gig. If Fitz is that much better than the others, he should have no problems winning the competition.
I like the idea of Fitzpatrick starting for 1 more year, then have Petty start (if he is ready) the year after.
