OK Guys, I am not optimist after Bowles' today press conference. He has mentioned the business word so much time and by Wilk's case, as well. Let's say Wilkerson will be tagged and traded. What is his value, can we get a late 1st pick for him?
yes, id think we could certainly get that. id think a mid first rounder plus a 4th wouldnt be out of the question. although id prefer to trade him for a left tackle, QB, cornerback, or edge rusher
I'm not concerned at all about losing him. We're ok in that department. We NEED faster LBs, speed rusher and shore up the O-line. Move Brick to RT and draft a LT and replace Winters in FA.
Reported asking price last year was what 2 1st's? Even if that was unreasonable and even with the injury he just had a career year so yes we could get a late first for him..
Someone would give a first for him...With a broken leg though now i can see some team trying to play the 2nd round game. Fuck that, we go get Mo for his best value. If we trade him then trade him to a NFC team please.
I think late 1st rounder and maybe a future 3rd is the tops of what some team will offer. Falcons and Saints are two teams I could see making a play for him.
The broken leg is such a Jet thing to happen. Look at the bright side, we are at least getting a 3rd rd. compensatory pick if he signs with another team.
Judging from Bowles' comments today I think Wilkerson will ultimately be tagged and traded for a first round pick. Broken leg recovery will get him back easily in time for TC, shouldn't affect his stock. Muhammad Wilkerson is my favorite player, and I'm queasy about the Jets trading away their 2 best picks of the millennium (Revis), but I agree with the move if that's the plan. It lets us resign Snacks to go with Sheldon and Leonard, so the DL is still dominant, while also giving us 2 first rounders to bolster other areas.
I am not sure Wilkerson was getting more than $12 mil per year before the broken leg. I would expect us to resign him in the $10-12 mil range at this point. I could see us using the transition tag but the franchise tag could be a bit too rich given the injury.
Yes, I think too, he will be traded, by Bowles' comments. We would save 15M to strenghten a roster and get a better pick than 3rd round comp pick if we would let him go.
A late 3rd round pick, that's essentially another Jalen Saunders or something. Unless you strike gold. Not interested. Either lock him up long term or tag & trade him (QB Stafford, LT Osemele etc). You don't let him just walk out the door. We invested a lot of time and work to help him be the player he is now. You don't let he Patriots or any other team now reap the benefits off our hard work.
I don't think the Jets would simply let him walk into free agency. If McCagnan feels that he's too expensive, he will just do a tag & trade- there will be lots of interested teams. There's probably a team out there that will pay a 1st round pick for Wilkerson. The broken leg won't tank his trade value; it's not that big of a deal. He'll probably be in a cast for awhile but I doubt that he'll miss any training camp.
Why do we want to trade one of our best players? We did this same bs with Revis and it turned out great. Can we keep our great players for once?
I can't see much for a tag and trade. Any team that wants him is going to have to pay for him so no one if going to trade for his tag to try to work out a deal. If he gets tagged, it would only be because they the Jets believe they can work out a deal to keep him. Otherwise, he'll sit until mid-season re-habbing and healing and go to FA next off season. The Jets aren't really in a position to hand him $16 million a year (or more) and he'll be rehabbing his injury for months.
