One good thing that could have come out of this is while Fitz makes horrible plays at times it is almost always due to his arm and lack of talent. Not him making a bad play. Realistically there were not many people better for Petty to learn behind so hopefully next season he is ready to at least get looked at. Marcus Williams, Calvin Pryor, Big cat Williams and Lorenzo Mauldin are all young players on the defense who will develop and get even better to be a crucial piece of the offense for years. Marshall has no signs of slowing down any time soon because he is a freaking monster. Decker is still in his prime. If Macc really is as great as we think he should be able to make the tweaks needed to make us better in the future. Other than Revis I really dont see any HUGE red flags for the future
This learning behind someone is a bunch of crap. Every Brady back up and every Manning back up have been pretty awful. I could go on and on. A player either has it or doesn't. Watching another player play does not make a player better.
Revis is still a capable CB, his problem all year is that he gives the receiver way too big a cushion to bait the QB so he can pick it off. But when these QBs are throwing bullets to much faster, athletic WR's they are going to blow past Revis. Also, they almost never gave him safety help inside or over the top. It has to change.
You really believe Rodgers is great because he watched Favre for three years? Maybe he's great because he's talented and wasn't rushed. If you know the history, Favre never taught Rodgers a thing, views him as a threat, and barely spoke to him.
There is no sign of hope with this flaming dumpster fire. The team will overpay Fitzpatrick because of his all-time franchise year despite the fact that the real tragedy is that it took a Jets QB this long to break records set in 14 game seasons when you could mug the WR. That means we will be another 1-2 years removed from trying to figure out whether we have a franchise QB in Geno (doubtful) or Petty (who knows) and rely upon a JAG QB who will keep us from really bottoming out. Our 10-6 record means nothing except that we pick 20th in the draft and won't get a franchise QB. Especially considering that we went 10-6 against a crappy schedule and still couldn't make the playoffs, lost to the Jills twice and nearly gagged losses to the Giants and Cowboys. We have an over-paid offensive line in Mangold and Ferguson (don't be surprised if he retires this off-season) and a CB who has clearly lost a step in Mevi$. Our best player just broke his leg and who knows when/how well he will come back. Anyway, if these are signs of hope than the apocalypse is coming soon...and not soon enough after 47 years of this shit franchise.
For the past half century, there has always been hope for this wretched organization, until reality inevitably sets in and extinguishes all faith. It is foolish to expect such a painfully long streak of incompetence to be magically disposed of and transoformed into a culture of success in a season or two. As we saw today, talk is cheap.
