Lol! Umm...you do realize he was out 5 or so games due to injury, right? That might be why he was 'invisible' those games.

He can be the second coming of Richie Anderson.... a solid pass catching RB the Jets had from the early 2000's.....very solid pass catching option out of backfield. A tad smaller.....will never be another Leon Washington as another poster suggested. Not nearly as fast. This team needs a fast shifty RB/KR to be added in the worst way...

I have like him since he came here and he has been under utilized. AS far has his running he was better then Johnson last year when he was given a shot and has been a good solid back for us for years... need to resign him this year.

His impact was felt from the Houston game on. Glad to have him back. Should be Ivory, Powell and that's it. No Ridley. He hasn't done anything. Although Ivory has improved at pass catching, Ridley should be the main pass catching back.

Powell looked really quick out there yesterday. I didn't realize he had that kind of speed. He has never really had any big plays for us yet so I haven't gotten to see him really open it up. With solid blocking this guy could be a force to be reckoned with. Now I know why the coaches are so high on this kid. Solid game and I hope he can keep the momentum going into next week. Ivory can't seem to stay on the field so we need him to step up big for us

Powell makes the screen pass viable and adds an option for Gailey to use instead of the short passes in front of the marker to either Marshall or Decker. Powell also makes Cumberland/Davis/Ridley expendable as Gailey doesn't need any of them for his passing game. It will be interesting next year when Amaro comes back who in that group walks the plank.

Don't sleep on Ivory either in the passing game. He has better hands this year and obviously has been working on his technique. I would love to see Gailey call a wheel route with Ivory once in a while.

Please. He's better than Richie and we deserve better than the 2nd coming of Richie Anderson. Powell is a much better blocker and doesn't fumble as much as Richie. It used to kill me how Richie got so many accolades for his blocking, and I could block better than he could. He'd just sort of get in the way for a second. Often, you couldn't even call it a "chip" block. I never once saw him lay a player out or really block someone.

Powell is a great 3rd down back, that Woodhead type role...he can catch the ball, shifty, just finds small holes...not exactly the quickest but he's key for a team that lacks a true TE for Fitz...Powell is very nice compliment.

Did you watch the first half? I don't really want to piss on anybody's cornflakes but he averaged about two yards a carry yesterday; he seems to have a tough time getting past the line so his use as a receiver is much more effective where he has more room to work. A two man backfield could definitely help him and Ivory by spreading out the defense.

this is such a knee-jerk overreaction its crazy. Ivory has been much better
it is still virtually no production, whether it was over 12 games or 7 games.

I don't think it is so much that he's not the quickest, I think he has decent speed. Unlike Ivory though he needs HOLES. He is deceptively quick in the open field and after he clears the first level. He just needs more of a hole to run through than Ivory does. That's why he is most effective straight up running later in the game. Early on he is most effective getting him the ball on screens etc...

It took Anderson a while to get going but he was a solid weapon for a couple of years anyway - not an all-pro.....Yes you're right we deserve " better " than the second coming of Richie Anderson which is why I suggested adding a speed burner. This team never replaced Leon Washington's speed coming out of the backfield or on KRs...and it's sticking out like a sore thumb. I'd be Ok with Powell sticking around next year in his current role but don't be surprised if Mac has other ideas...

I like Powell, and I hope he remains a Jet, but at the same time, I want Mac to get a RB with better speed and elusiveness than Powell. I won't be surprised at all if Mac does get a faster RB than Powell.

Thank you.....Finally someone said it, I appreciate how fans love the players on their teams and are supportive, but let's be real, Powel excells at picking up blitzes, and the occasional big play on the screen pass.

The jets and every other team, need more than that to be successful. The jets need an explosive RB that can make the defense pay more than occasionally. I don't see him going anywhere though, TB strikes me as the type of coach that will hang on to players just because they can carry out his game plan, just look at how long it took him to give Mauldin more playing time over Pace.

Powel has had more than ample time to elevate himself on the depth chart, and he has not been able to elevate his game anymore. I'm ok with that if there is no other option, but NC you are right, Mac needs to bring in some who is more elusive and faster.

I hope he looks at Christian Michael, unless someone picked him up already.

Anyone on the FA list for next year that you think could be brought in?

Thanks. To be honest, I haven't even thought about next year yet other than just general needs for the draft/FA. I've been too busy enjoying this season. I'm not even following college football the way I have in the past.

It's funny, in the past I felt a need to follow the college players and find the best ones that I thought could help the team. It's almost as if I thought by doing that I could help the team get the right players. Now, I don't feel the need or desire to do that. For one thing, I completely trust Mac at this point, and believe that he knows his stuff regarding talent, building a team/roster, and getting the talent the Jets need. The other aspect is that I don't care how many games we watch, how many scouting reports/guides we read, whether we watch the Combine, etc., there's still too little that we know about players to make a really accurate assessment. While over the years, I have been right much more often than wrong about players, I've still missed big on occasion. The other aspect is that in following the college game and draft, inevitably there are some players that I fall in love with, and the Jets seldom take those players. Since I don't have time to follow the NFL as a whole, or play fantasy football, that becomes a point of frustration for me.

Now that you bring up the RB position, I think I'd rather Mac draft one or sign one as a UDFA rather than sign a veteran FA. While there are usually good veterans available, there is usually a reason that they are available. College RBs entering the NFL have less mileage on them, less wear and tear, and RB remains the easiest position in which for rookies to come in, start and excel. If Powell and Ivory both stay, that will be 2 veterans at the position. I don't think we need another veteran at RB. We didn't exactly fare very well with either Stacy or Ridley. Hopefully, both will be gone next season. I'd rather the 3rd RB be a rookie with that speed, elusiveness, and good hands who can be the KOR, PR and 3rd down back.

If I were to compare Richie Anderson to anyone on this team (Powell is a completely different player) I'd compare him to Enunwa. Richie was a miscast receiver playing FB/HB.

He's so dangerous with the ball in his hands, great vision, very elusive, he sets up his blockers and finds the holes. I mentioned last week that in a perfect world Powell gets around 5-10 rushes and 5-10 receptions per game and today was another perfect example. We still have to draft somebody in the 3rd or 4th round just to groom somebody to take over for Ivory or Powell 2-3 years later maybe. Powell however to me has franchise player written all over him. He's never going to be the feature back but he can be a tremendous 3rd down / #2 back his entire career here as a Jet. Like Kevin Faulk with the Patriots or maybe Dion Lewis if he sticks around.

He looks fast, got some spring back in his steps; looks stronger too. You just have to love the way he runs.
