And this is what makes me love this guy so much and think he is the perfect guy to build around: http://teamstre.am/1NcR2aZ - Marshall said Fitzpatrick starts texting him after games and throughout the week and that has led to their rising chemistry. “Every form of communication that is out there, he uses,” Marshall said. “Whether it is voice memos, text messages, video chats, group texts, emails -- he sends it to us in groups and individually. It’s constant. He’s relentless.” - Fitzpatrick noted how technology has made things much easier to stay in touch with his receivers. “Technology, back in 2005, wasn’t the same as it is today,” Fitzpatrick cracked. “I used to send stuff on my beeper. [Sending clips to receivers is] something I’ve done more here than in other places, and part of it was just kind of our schedules and the way we do things here. Part of it is just having some guys that really understand the game and from a simple clip, can really get on the same page with what I’m trying to get them to see.” - Fitzpatrick was asked if he group-texts Marshall and Eric Decker. The quarterback said he usually sends individual clips to each, but mentioned how he joined the Jets’ offensive line group text. “There is a great O-line group text,” Fitzpatrick joked. “But that’s usually not about football. … I snuck my way into that one.” - Marshall says being in constant communication with Fitzpatrick has produced results. Perhaps they should start texting each other on how to celebrate, as Marshall said things got awkward after the Giants’ victory and the two ended up almost kind of spooning at the end. “We sat there for a second,” Marshall said of the end, when Josh Brown missed a 48-yard field goal in overtime. “We didn’t get up and run on the field; we just hugged each other and he put me in this weird position. It was really awkward. I was like laying on top of him, so I tried to maneuver myself into a better position.” “It was almost like me on top of him and he was on his back. It was weird.”
There's something to be said about the leader of a unit in football being charismatic. For all of his shortcomings he seems to rally the team around him. It's an overlooked characteristic for quarterbacks. Chad had it too, but unfortunately he had the arm of a 70 year old woman after several surgeries. Not to mention he's been throwing the ball fucking phenominally. I believe he's at his career high in wins and probably virtually every category. I just can't believe some of you goons were calling for the ol dirt bag cheapskate Geno after a couple of games. Please come eat your crow. Regardless of how we finish, Geno will still most likely be out of this league in a couple years (probably after a stint in trying to resurrect Chip Kelly's career if he stays in the NFL).
I admit I'm a sucker for these things I know it will come back to haunt me but as someone who played team sports I buy in to chemistry even though talent wins most of the time.
yep, just posted this in the other thread. the guy is a leader and really into it. shame he doesn't have the same physical skills as others but maybe we'll be ok.
Some of us wanted to see what Geno looked like in this offense for a couple games because Fitz wasn't doing a good job in the middle part of the season and throughout his whole career in the NFL he has played worse and worse as the season went on.....For whatever reason, he has been much better overall lately and is playing at a higher level than he has at basically any point in his journeyman career. Props for people who saw this coming (no one really did, they just had the anyone but Geno attitude which is fine). I'll gladly eat crow if it means a playoff run....whatever And the story hasn't been written on Geno even though some of you like to believe that to be the case....maybe this whole season and also watching Fitz has a positive effect on him, even if it's with another team down the line....Maybe he never gets it, wouldn't be the first time Hopefully Fitz has taught both Geno and Petty what it means to be a professional QB in the NFL....That could be more valuable than anything for the Jets down the line
Well it was said that Geno was winning the competition at camp. Maybe there's a bit more things the Jets can do with Geno at the helm and maybe other WR's could be involved but as of now, the chemistry between Fitz, Marshall, Decker is at a high and it's awesome to see.
I'm on it. It's mostly just meeting for beers at one place but telling Winters another place, like some gay dungeon in Chelsea. He never catches on. "guys where are you??? this doesn't look right." "We're way in the back. JPP is here too. club all greased up for you." "wat???" "Take your shirt off for free entry." "no! im not doing that again. where are you?!?" "Way in the back, fat ass!" "can't see. so dark." "And get us a round of pink pythons on the way. Hurry up!" "ok ok!!! jeez."
Communication is key in any relationship so Ryan obviously knows what to do. The guy just wants to get better at the game and it's his persistence that will win out.
Geno is master of the 13 yard sack. He has zero football IQ, no awareness, no chemistry with his receivers, no instincts. He has a stronger qrm and throws a better ball but that is it. Fitz made a split second decision to take off (knowing they were in 2 deep man) on that key 4th and 6 in the giants game....geno would have drifted backwards and git sacked.
Well put. Sad that us that wanted to see what young Geno had to offer as he grows get discriminated and categorized around these parts. What's wrong with supporting ALL of your QB's? i know i sure do. Sure as a die-hard WVU fan i wanted to see Geno prosper but i always said I'm down with whoever gives us the best chance to win. There aint a Jet fan in the world that hasn't hated and slandered the hell out of Fitz throughout the course of his career. so we ALL can eat the crow on this one. Genobot or not! I used to hate Fitz but man has times changed. He won me over and i love that crazy bastard! haha. not just b/c he's a jet but he's showing that he is a good QB just never had the full deck of cards around him like he does now. He's on pace to be eating our record books up.. so go Fitz! It aint magic baby!
We'll see. I just can't see Geno being a serviceable starter in this league. I will gladly bump the write up on him I did a month or so back, but he simply does too many things wrong. The only (albeit a huge one) addition that Geno has not played with is Brandon Marshall. I get that he's a huge difference maker, but my whole point is what do you see in him in the first place? Quarterbacks are coming into this league now from the first, second, even third and fourth rounds and the status quo is to find out if they can play or not. If they can't, then franchises do not have enough time to hold their hand and rub their back and tell them everything might be okay one day if you throw more TD's than picks in your 5th year in the league. This is no longer a patient league with NFL quarterbacks. Either you show more promise than he has or you get the f out. Sorry to be brash but that's how it works. Teams are slowly figuring that out. Look at how quickly Kaepernick was benched. He got two years to start. He was trash and turned the ball over at a remarkably bad rate while playing the worst situational football anyone who has been around the game has seen. Even when he tosses the ball around well, like he did vs. Oakland this year, he makes a couple horrible plays each game he plays that doesn't show up in the stay book. He has completed only 57.9% of his passes with 27 touchdowns/35 picks, 7 rushing TDs and 16 fumbles. Sorry but when you're benched for Michael Vick who just wants a paycheck at this point, your career is in jeopardy. Throw me some names of NFL quarterbacks that were given another year or two with the keys to the franchise, after performing like that in their first two years. Spare me prototype franchise quarterbacks like Peyton Manning too, please.
I just never thought he should be playing until around year 3 but I understand your point of view Every situation and QB is different....I thought that Geno was playing better towards the end of last season and I know people want to dismiss it as low pressure but he looked to finally turn the corner...Even the Oakland game this season, once the Jets let him finally rip after a few conservative drives he did fine overall and made a couple big plays with his arm and legs...A couple dumbass plays at the end of the game when we were down big shouldn't cloud everything that he did well but it does because of the weird amount of hate he gets I just don't understand the whole narrative of many Jets fans openly rooting against him improving and taking cheap shots whenever possible...The coaches see him every week and have an open mind on him as they didn't draft him...If he hasn't been improving and isn't working hard he will be off the team eventually....If he is given a chance to compete in the future or even just held on to as a backup it means that he looks pretty good which is a good thing for the Jets, not a bad thing With no signs of a franchise QB just appearing on the Jets roster, Petty or Geno are our best hope at the moment...That's why I'm hoping that both of them are really paying attention to Fitzpatrick's every move. The more chances the better
I'm not rooting for him to not improve I'm simply a realist about the fact that he does not look like a starting calibre quarterback in this league. He made a couple boneheaded plays in a 14 point game with around 8 minutes left on a drive that could've cut it to 1 score. He took several dumb sacks that essentially ended the game. There's no agenda. He's proved himself incapable now both on and off the field. I just don't want us to waste time on him anymore. And as you said the coaching staff sees him everyday and even if you want to give him an A- grade, the staff still wanted to go with the journeyman quarterback with a busted up thumb.
