I didn't see another similar thread, so I figured I'd post this with a link to the following article:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/report-peyton-manning-intends-play-134200259.html

Apparently Peyton Mannig wants to play again next season whether it is with the Broncos or with another team. I think he needs to seriously consider retirement. He is a HoF QB and, personally, I wish that we had gotten him years ago.* Sadly we didn't and he has gone on to have a magnificent career. I think he has underperformed in the playoffs, but even though that is something of a smudge on his legacy, you can't take away the fact that he has been an amazing QB. At this point, however, he needs to look toward the future. Every year he plays, every game he goes under center, every snap he takes makes it more and more likely that the damage he has accrued becomes much worse. He is in his 40s now and he is simply not going to recover like in his youth. I think he is chasing one last SB win, but I increasingly feel like this is his white whale. I get why he is frustrated, but he has still had SO much success. Look at other talented QBs who've fared worse: Jim Kelly and Fran Tarkenton don't have any SB rings and Peyton's father would've been thrilled just to have some more wins and spend less time getting the grass out of his mouth.

It's time to go Peyton. I'm saying this with all the respect of someone who has always wished you could've played for the green'n'white: you've been an amazing player and I hope to see you coach I the future. But get out before they wheel you out.

*-the story I remember hearing was the he would have come out the year we had the number 1 pick if BP had guaranteed he'd pick Peyton first. BP wouldn't and, apparently didn't want to groom a young QB. Hess wanted to win now, as did BP, so it wasn't clear that they'd want a young Peyton with that pick. That's the version of the story I remember, although I'd love to get some feedback about its accuracy. It seems we gave up long-term stability for a quick chance at success.

There are 32 teams in the NFL. If I was Peyton Manning I'd play for as long as one of those 32 teams wants me as their starter.

I cant count him out. I thought he was done prior to his record breaking season so ya never know.

With the way they can get players healthy again these days ya gotta think he'll be a starter somewhere come Week 1 of next year.

If he's healthy I'll take him on the Jets in a second.

just like the way too many professional boxers who simply do not know how to retire. They all pay for that foolish decision.

with all the commercials? yes, he needs to cut it back to 35 or so

with wanting to keep playing?greedily we want our last image of greats be one of them in their prime, but its hard to begrudge the guy for trying to hold on for one more year. he still has half a life to live, of it was me, they would have to cut the uni off

When you're a top 5 player of all time at your position you're really allowed to pick and choose when you want to end your career.

I think Peyton knows himself better than anone else does. He's clearly not been healthy.

He needs to leave Denver though. Kubiak has been round peg square holing him all year. He's not a play action bootleg quarterback. I can't understand the hire at all at this point.

Bring him on down to New York. We'll take a half of Peyton Manning versus the garbage we've had for the entirety of our franchise.

It's funny how sad your fan base is. The first thing you do after a prime time win for your team is go on the division teams board whom they didn't play to bash Peyton Manning

I'm not sure what this has to do with me being a Patriot fan. It's universally known that Peyton has always padded his stats.

It has to do with the fact that that's the first thing you did after your team just won a Monday Night Football game.

It's also universally known that the IQ of humans drops as you move further northeast of Connecticut.

    Here is an ESPN article:

    http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story...-england-patriots-wins-appeal-nfl-deflategate

If you read it, Kraft is the one saying there is no evidence against Tom Brady. The JUDGE, however, isn't saying that at all. The judge overturned the decision by the NFL because he ruled the NFL used a deficient legal system, failed to inform of punishment ahead of time, etc. None of this equates to innocence and, in fact, corroborates the notion that Brady is culpable since it doesn't challenge that line of reasoning. The courts merely struck down a he punishment as arbitrary and NOT that the accused was innocent.

EDIT: here is an excerpt below....

"The court finds that Brady had no notice that he could receive a four-game suspension for general awareness of ball deflation by others,'' the judge wrote.

In a statement, NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith said the ruling proves that the contract with the NFL doesn't grant Goodell "the authority to be unfair, arbitrary and misleading.''

Again, this does not say that Brady was innocent, uninvolved in any attempt at cheating, covering evidence, etc., although it does attempt to spin his knowledge of the situation (ball deflation) into what he knew that OTHERS were doing. This is still culpability.

Consider that someone is cheating in a game you are playing. You know they are cheating AND the way in which they are cheating benefits you, especially since they are on your team. Does that mean YOU are cheating? Yes, it does.

After all, if you provide someone with a gun knowing they are going to kill then you are also culpable in the murder, right? If you help someone get away from a robbery then you are part of that robbery. And if you aid and abet a crime you are guilty. The same definitions apply here, except there is very good reason to think that Brady is not as disassociated from the situation as these examples.

Manning is toast. One of the best to ever play... but it's over. Has to wear a glove to grip the ball because he has no feeling in the tips of his fingers.

I can understand his wanting to continue to play, and don't begrudge him that, but I think he would be foolish not to retire. He's a shadow of the player he once was. He's beginning to hurt his own legacy now, and its starting to get to the point where he's looking a bit foolish. He's jeopardizing his future health, if not life. I understand wanting to win one more SB to further embellish his legacy, but the odds of that now are getting smaller rather than bigger. If he's just trying to compete with Eli and Brady, then it's foolish imo. He shouldn't want to be a "hanger on" and having people shake their heads and saying he's pathetic and should have retired years ago.

Right! Continue your delusions and living in denial if you want. You're just making yourself look foolish.
