I can name 15 QBs, right now, who are either not on rosters or are 3rd string or lower who are better than Geno Smith. I can name 40 who are capable of competing with him for a position.
Name 15 QBs that were a FA prior to the season starting that could've competed with Geno for the starting job.
I know what Mac did with FA and this past year's draft. As I said, he gets a pass from me for this year because of all the holes the Jets had and the amazing work he did get done in addressing those holes. Perhaps I missed your point, but don't really think so. I understand and agree that if those two things are the only things wrong with a team, then your team is in pretty good shape. I was just responding to one aspect of your post. The part I don't agree with is having the same problem every year. My point was that there's no excuse for that to be a problem for multiple seasons. A KOR is not as important as a PR, but a PR is vitally important, especially for a team whose main strength is D and doesn't have a franchise QB. For them, field position is vitally important. It's a joke when your team has the likes of Zac Stacy, a bigger, slower RB returning kicks. I forgot them in my earlier response, but often times DBs also function as returners, so there are plenty of players in each draft that can fill the returner roles.
Well, your opinion is dumb. As others have said, who else was going to start? Geno was the incumbent. Fitz was coming off a broken leg, was the best FA available and knew Gailey's system, so they had no other better veteran options. Petty sure wasn't ready to start. Geno supposedly worked hard during the offseason and was showing a lot of improvement after working with Gailey. Whereas starting Geno wasn't ideal, it was the only logical, reasonable choice at the time.
Just get some young talent on offense we need speed we don't have any besides devin smith but as of right now he seems like a bum
I'll get him started: D.Anderson CAR K.Clemens SD A. Davis CLE Gabbert or Kaep SF RG III Glennon Gradkowski Garrapolo Hasselbeck S. Hill MINN Henne JAX Hundley GB T. Jackson Josh Johnson Landry Jones Foles or Keenum Sanchez Manziel McCown NOR Mettenberger Matt Moore Orlovsky Manning or Osweiler Stanton Tolzien Joe Webb Charlie Whitehurst TJ Yates
I have been wondering ALL YEAR why they had Zac Stacy returning kicks--No speed, will never hit the seam and take it to the house. Makes as much sense as Rich Kotite having Reggie Cobb returning kicks in 1996; making it to the 20 was a victory.
Hey dummy the majority of those QBs were on rosters prior to the regular season. I said 15 QBs that were FAs prior to the season. Majority are backups. Oh lmao Joe Webb, Kellen Clemens
You want me to copy and paste his list into a new comment box and hit "post reply"? It's not going to make his list any more accurate and it's not going to make your absurd point (that nobody possibly-as-good as Geno was easily available) any less ludicrous. Geno sucks. Any coach and/or GM making the decision to go into the start of the NFL season with him as their starting QB has opened themselves up to mountains of justified criticism. The end.
Didn't Gaily anoint Geno the starter but Bowles said "not so fast"? I remember something like that. As long as were talking about Fitz/Geno, how do you thing the 2016 camp battle will shake out with a healthy Fitz? Could Geno beat out Fitz (legitimately)?
Yes, Gailey said Geno was the starter and Bowles clarified immediately with it's Geno's job to lose. I think that Bowles along with many many Jets fans was thinking that as soon as Fitz legs got stronger he's win the job from Geno.
And how many of those were available to the Jets? That's the crux of the matter. It doesn't matter if there's 500 QBs better than Geno, if the Jets can't acquire them and play them. Even with the players on which we agree, in general, they may be better QBs, but would they fit in the Jets' spread system? In addition, I disagree with a number of the names you mentioned. Sanchez? Please. In addition, Hundley, Whitehurst, Tolzien, Manziel, Stanton and maybe even RGIII are not better.
I understood Unhappy's argument to mean that most NFL backups are arguably as good or better than GS. Here is a list that can be used as a comparison set.
The majority of the QBs listed, were already on NFL rosters prior to the season, so sir you are incorrect. Geno sucks, but so do the majority of the QBs in the NFL. That's why they are backups and not starters.
