Compared to Geno I think "OK" is damn near HoF worthy. I realized it was bad when I started longing for the Glenn Foley over Geno.....

This team is MUCH better than it was last year and it's easy to lose sight of that after some disappointing losses and showings. Fitzpatrick hasn't been great, but he has been better than expected and has been playing a little better over the last few games (despite the losses). Good leader, good field presence and game awareness.

I still like Bowles at this point, though the defense has had some lapses recently, especially against Oakland and Jacksonville (defense had a let down late against the Pats, but was good otherwise and was solid against Buffalo, but couldn't stop McCoy when everyone knew what was coming). They generally play good 2nd half football, which is a great sign to me; even in games they lost, they made improvements and made each game closer in the 2nd half. He's a rookie head coach and the team has had some discouraging moments, but there's been a lot of good.

I have no reason to doubt Maccagnan as GM either. He had a lot of cap space and used it aggressively, but wisely without bad, long-term contracts (Cromartie can, and probably should, be cut after the season without major cap ramifications). Fitzpatrick was a great acquisition for the cost and return. Same goes for Marshall even though his errors are very maddening (still worthwhile). James Carpenter has been great. Leonard Williams and Lorenzo Mauldin have at least been promising (not a fan of Devin Smith, but the jury is out). Secondary has made all the difference even with a couple bad showings. Revis and Skrine have been great and Gilchrist has been an upgrade. There will be holes to fill this offseason, but I still like the direction overall.

All things considered, 5-4 isn't bad and they're still in good position to compete going forward. I think I would have signed up for a 5-4 start before the season started..

this team has 8-8 talent and we are on pace to finish at about 8 or 9 wins. we are right where we should be.

the playoffs are likely no longer a reality after losses to oakland and buffalo. those were games we needed to win

This team has no fire...the Jets consistently play flat from the get go. Bowles needs to somehow shake this team up and have them prepared for the 60 minute battle. This years team is a vast improvement over last year, but there's work to be done.

PS How do professional defensive players totally forget how to tackle?

Big picture, I am OK with 5-4. The reality is that no matter your record you always feel you should be better. The Eagles and Bills game are the 2 that bother me up to this point...

Thanks. I began with three more wins because I was responding to a poster who said he thought we were going to wind up with only 3 more wins than last season (7 wins total), and thought that was disappointing. I was trying to make the point why it wasn't disappointing to me. I think a 3 game improvement from one season to the next is pretty darned good, particularly when you're coming from where the Jets were coming with holes all over the roster, huge question marks and key positions and little depth, and a new CS with different philosophies and systems.

We spent everything we had in FA because the NFL mandated it, not because Mac was foolishly going all in on this season. He needed to sign FAs as well because we had holes all over the roster, and he knew that Woody and the fanbase were tired of losing. Hence he got players that would at least help us to be competitive and give us a chance to make the playoffs.

One is limited with FA additions by the quality of the FAs available. How many Pro Bowlers or future HOFers were available in FA? Not many, if any. We did the best we could, but all that meant is that we'd be a more complete team than we were and would be competitive this season. Mac was smart and wrote the contracts so we could cut bait with them and they wouldn't cause future cap problems.

the playoffs are absolutely a reality. we're far from done and have playoff caliber talent, health permitted (and it hasn't)

those loses make things difficult but not impossible at all.

The Jets have been banged up and have underperformed in November. They can potentially get healthy and right the ship, but November is when good teams need to stack wins and the Jets unfortunately have shown they are not a very good team.

It sucks because the Jets have shown flashes. The defense has shown the ability to shut teams down, with stout run defense and now getting a pass rush and some sacks. But they have been inconsistent, and have allowed teams to march down the field and score quickly on several occasions. They need to stop the mental lapses.

The offense has been pretty good. They score points. Fitz, Deck and Marshall have a building chemistry, and Ivory was punishing defenses at the start of the year.

If they can put it all together and build some consistency, they can win 5 more games, get a wildcard and will be considered a tough out in the playoffs. They have shown they can play with the Patriots, so its not out of order to think they wouldn't have a shot. They have the experience and the talent.

Unfortunately, they have shown they cant take care of business when its needed. So I think they will only win 3-4 more games and will miss the playoffs.

5-4 with an average QB is pretty goood I'd say. Still an outside wildcard chance, if we can find a decent QB next year and Marshall, Decker and Ivory play the same we could have a better season next year.

It's a pretty safe bet that Geno is starting the next two weeks.

Well. We are better off than we were last year. Fitz is a QB who can keep us in games and our defense is borderline elite. Bowles is in his rookie year so he needs some time. But the problem I think the problem is Gailey he sucks as much as Bills fans said he did. We need to get confident, play consistent and get some wins. The offensive play calling is guaranteed to stifle the team.

We're going to have to take some games down the stretch no one expects us to win, I.e the Pats, Giants, Bills in Buffalo, and maybe even Miami if we want to make the playoffs.. Losing to fucking Oakland and Buffalo are killling us... Even the loss to Philly sucks because they are absolute shit..

I'll feel a little better once, if we can get healthier. If we can end this season as a wildcard playoff spot, i'll take it... Remember... just get into the dance and see what happens...

But I AM a Jets fan afterall... i'm always pessimistic... loll
