No. By making the playoffs, which will give us a high finish in the division if not won. Then the jets will face 2 extra hard teams next season, 2, and just 2. The rest of the schedule is already written. And screw 07, the jets are playing to win now and be successful in 06.
Alot of people are still thinking back before the NFL introduced the 4 divisions plan, but you're exactly right. It's part of the NFL'S parity=gold plan.....
'Chef' you need to get a life. Why do you post here with such idiotic comments - probably a dolphin fan... Go back to the muppet show.....
2 years ago was a much different team, granted we had injuries last year but we also werent as good as we told ourselves we were. 2 years ago is out the window for me, were doing better than expected, however there is no such thing as a lock to win or an easy win, you have got to earn it.
Wait. There is no more Central anymore. I believe that we're going to play the AFC North next year because we're playing the South this year and played the West last year. So we're going to play the second place team in the AFC South and West next year. But yeah like you said playoffs or not doesn't matter it's where we finish. And even if we finish at second and don't make the playoffs it'll only affect two games.
Why would we want to get into the playoffs anyway. We'll lose in the first round, and get a much lower draft pick than the wildcard contenders. If we are below the wildcard contenders it might see us move 5+ spots up the draft. It will also give us a harder schedule next year
It's like a 5 pick difference tops between going 9-7 and missing the playoffs and going 10-6 and making them. Given my druthers I'd much rather have the Jets 10-6 and picking on the 21 or 22 than 9-7 and picking on the 16 or 17.
Wow, and you call yourself a fan? How can you call yourself a fan when you don't want your team to reach the playoffs? How do you know we would lose in the first round? Can you see into the future? And is all you care about draft picks and moving on to the next season? Why not win NOW? While we have the chance and take advantage of this easy schedule. In 04, the Jets took advantage of an easy schedule, got 10 wins and got to the playoffs. All the "experts" said the jets were one and done and what happened? They defeated SD in the wildcard and nearly beat Pitt the next week if we make 1 FG. The 04 team never put away bad teams, just like now in 06. But they always gave really good teams really good games, which they do now (ex. 31-28 vs. IND, 24-17 vs. NE). Once they reach the playoffs, everything will begin to click when they know they are playing for everything. Winning builds momentum no matter who you beat, we saw that in 04. The Jets are contenders in 06, get over it, I can't see how you call yourself a fan. And making the playoffs won't give us a harder schedule. Buff and Miami are the bottomfeeders of the division either way. So no matter what, we will get 2 extra hard games next season. 2 games, big woop, get over it and cheer for your friggen team.
These posts piss me off. What do you want? To lose a bunch of games? Lets go 6-10 and get an easy schedule next year! That is crazy talk. Tough Schedule and go down hill? The team will continue to improve and it will transfer to next year.
Have to disagree with the points you make in your post. Jags will be better than .500, Jets defense has shown ZERO signs of 'coming around' we can't stop ANYONE, Ravens defense is too good to write them off, and Chiefs (as much as I hate Herm) are doin' just fine right now and could beat us.... If we make the playoffs I will eat a bowl of paper clips and enjoy digesting it. Seriously though, I hope we make the playoffs because it will be TOUGH.
How can you say the defense is not coming around? We held the Dolphins to 3 points in the 1st 3 quarters a week ago. And last week, held Martz and the high powered Lions offense to 10 points in the 1st 3 quarters. Please do not let the fact that the Jets have big leads in the 4th and go into a prevent defense make you think less of our defense. The 4th quarter prevent is why we are giving up so many points. This defense is getting much better.
The thing is, though, that being a better all around team is irrelevent to the playoff picture, it's games won that counts and if those teams can't get more than the Jets over the remaining weeks their superior ability, etc. counts for nothing.
If we lose to both the Pats and the Bears coming up I hope we never see another playoff thread on the forum this season.
Why? If we have managed to beat Cleveland ahead of that we'll then be 5-5 with six games coming up that are all winnable...
