ESPN's Colin Cowherd: "The Jets may be the best coached team in the NFL" Heard it with my own ears this morning. Add Mr. Cowherd to the bandwagon. He also said something to the effect of, "most people had this team probably being the worst in the league and now there is chance they will be a playoff team." Jets, please do me a favor. Just beat Cleveland and give the national media 2 weeks to stew over what kind of team you really are! > I " BORROWED " THIS FROM ANOTHER SITE . . .
Keep your avatar like that Kelly. Makes your image to other posters better too. Colin might be crazy though. Best coached team? Mangini take a break week 5?
colin is very smart and in my opinion the best radio talk show host out there right now. cowherd is usuualy right on almost eveyrthing he talks about, hes quite knowledgeable, this is a very good sign
Chad Pennington's health is the major reason we have a winning record- that and the easy sched. I love mangini and I am very happy he's here but guys like Cowherd only look at the records and the preseason expectations. mangini has done a GOOD job but fr from a great one. We have beaten the teams we should have and only have 1 bad loss where we should have won the game but he has made alot of questionable decisions(he gets a pass b/ he's a 1st yr HC) and the D has been atrocious transitioning to a 3-4 when w/ amost identical personnel we thrived in the 4-3.
I wouldn't exactly call it "thrived" This D had 1 real solid year with this personnel, and that was DH's first year. I personally don't see a reason to wait to move from the 4-3. They still use it anyway. This is year 1, he wants the 34, boom or bust, this is the time to put it in place. I do agree that Chad has a lot to do with the success, but he does have a lot to do with the limitations as well. I honestly think if these guys had a D worth a crap they could be considered a playoff team. Right now, I don't see it even close to a lock, unlike many of the homers. Still junc, a good first year.
I agree w/ most of what you wrote but the D was a top 5 D in '04 so they did thrive in that system. I am patient to wait on the 3-4, we finally saw some signs of life last week(against a beaten up Det OL but it was still positive) and hopefully as they adjust we get alot better. I am disappointe that we haven't seen more 4-3 as mangini stressed flexibility but i do trust he's doing the right thing for down the road. I can't think about playoffs yet and I agree if we had any D I would think we were a good bt to make it but until we see major improvements in the D(I think it could happen) I don't think we can talk playoffs yet. I just want to get to 5-3 at the bye and i'll be happy for now.
The prospect of 5-3 gives me a knot in my stomach. Normally I'd be expecting a win today and being witness to a major melt-down. By all rights it should be a win.
