Hey fellers, I'm going to be in Australia...the Gold Coast/Cairnes area from 11/7-11/21. I just realized that means i missing the Pats and Bears games. Dammit. I remember that a few people who posted here were in Australia. Are there stations or bars that carry games? Actually...the morning games probably start at 3AM Monday morn right? Any info and help that anyone has for me would be GREATLY appreciated. I really don't want to miss those games... Thanks!!
TIVO/VCR - tape or record your games and then avoid any NFL news till you get back. Probably your best bet. I don't know Australia, but I bet it isn't easy to get these games on the telly there.
You can get the slingshot which is something you put on your tv and you can watch from a computer anywhere in the world. I think some nfl thing came out where you can buy a game online for like $25 dollars, but only internationally. If the system works by IP address rather than credit card billing address you should be able to do that.
doubt any bars would have the game or any tv carriers have them back home...when i was home, we used to get the game of the week...best bet is to tivo it dude.
At the moment the 1pm games happen here at 3am! Daylight savings is coming so I think they will get later. I "watch" with the TGG gameday thread open, the NFL gameday stat thing in another window and a radio link that someone usually posts here. Its better than nothing. Monday night games are shown live but only on cable. There is also a replay of another sunday game. Jets have not been shown yet. Hopefully the Pats game is. Enjoy our great country Mate.
thanks for your help guys...and abyzmul...you're definitely right about that! i just happened to check the schedule and saw it was those 2 big games. i'll definitely tivo them, and i'll look further into the thing Mario was talking about. thanks again!
Prime time games are live on ESPN and there is usually a live Sunday double header on foxsports. Although I think now with the addition of fox sports 3 there's now a triple header, or at least I saw it in the guide for November  Those games are usually NFC orientated (it's pretty rare to have two AFC teams facing off) but I haven't been following them closely this year as I leave home pretty much as soon as I'm awake. The games are also more often than not TBA so you might want to check here http://www.foxsports.com.au/tvguide/ closer to the date of the game (I think you can only search 7 days). And yeah all games are repeated at night if you miss them. Basically you'll need access to cable or satellite I'm not sure if there are any free to air games.
you're right fox only do NFC games and NFC@AFC games.....CBS do AFC games and AFC@NFC games i think and we dont get any cbs coverage here unless its playoffs we see plenty of the giants, cowboys and eagles
Yep, this is what I do too and then pick up any highlights anyone has posted a link to on this forum. Mate, that part of the world is fantastic, enjoy the time over here. We Aussies would love to hear about your trip and your impressions of our country. edit: check out my pic at left....you will see a LOT of that!!!
Sunday nights, Monday nights, and one sunday game is shown on cable. If you are staying in Cairns there should definately be most places with cable (Foxtel.) The day games will be on Fox sports 1 2 or 3 The night games will be on espn
thanks so much you guys for all of your help...i really appreciate it. maybe the Bears at Jets will be on Fox! anyway...you guys have gotten me even more excited to go and i'll definitely let you all know how it goes and all of my impressions. thanks again!!
If you get out to Holloways beach (north of cairns about 10km) there is a seaside cafe there called "Strait on the Beach". (look it up on Google) Say hi to Ken and Ros (my brother and sister in law) They have owned it for several years and is a primo spot for coffee, food or a beer right next to the ocean. Ken will definitely know about Ben and the NFL. He is a keen Geelong Footy club supporter . Tell him his brother Frank says hi (if he is there he plays golf about 3 days a week on some of the best courses in Australia)
PM me if you have any questions on Cairns. I've been 7 or 8 times. I'm sort of inlove with the place.
Jets in Australia... When I lived in Australia and I had enough time I could usually catch American sports in the nicer casinos. I watched many of Dodgers and Jets games in Australia. Just strike up a conversation with a manager and see what they can do for you. Australians are very keen on sport, so they'll be willing to help you out. Just expect MANY, MANY comments about how pussy of a game American football is.
