http://espn.go.com/blog/newyork-jet...e-wrinkle-another-look-for-patriots-to-digest As we all had assumptions on exactly how the 4 man fronts would look, but here is what Bowles gave us: LE - Wilkerson DT - Richardson ST - Snacks RE - Williams Mike LB - David Harris Strong Side - Calvin Pace Weak Side - Demario Davis I personally prefer the 4 man fronts w/ this defense as opposed to the 3-4, but should be interesting what line-ups we see as the season goes on. Thoughts?
Its an ideal look with the personnel we have. I'd bet he takes Pace off the field even more for Skrine to cover the slot if he plays vs. New England. The name of the game is being able to stop the run with 4 down lineman, 2 linebackers and Pryor running up in support. If we can do that effectively Brady could be in for a tougher day than he's seen all year. If they have success running the ball and we need that true 7 man box we might get killed because our linebackers are mostly liabilities in coverage especially against the Gronk/Edelmans of the world. We have a good chance of matching up against Gronk. Skrine could be a good guy to toss on him because he's no match physically but he's so active with his hands and leaping ability he could frustrate him. I just hope if he's hurting us that we switch it up. You don't want to leave the same guy on him all game if he's getting beat.
Absolutely, I agree. 4-2-5 set-up will be best against the Patriots. Patriots will have a challenge trying to stop the interior pressure from the Jets, and if we can throw off their timing - I think we can experience some success. Skrine and Revis will be key in this game as they will more than likely be seeing Edelman and Danny Amendola the most. Those are the guys that tend to move the chains for the Patriots. Can't forget about Dion Lewis as well, none of our linebackers can cover that game in open space, so Pryor will need to have one of his best games as a Jet.
Douzable took all of his snaps. Coples is as good as gone, a 4-3 team with a need for an interior pass rusher will take him.
Any potential QC had was ripped from him by Rex and his idiotic bullshit. The knock on him was his motivation, something I can only imagine has taken a massive hit being put in a position to fail. When Ryan drafted him the plan should have been to move to a 4 man front. Instead he goes ahead and continues on with the 3-4 like a facking momo. It's nice to have a coach that creates his game plan based on the players on the roster rather than locking into a scheme ala Rex. Speaking of which, his fruity handling of the defensive personnel seems to be creating some problems in Buf.
wilkerson played a ton of tackle. we went 4 man line but that 4 didnt play a ton together. douzable saw alot of time at DE. there was alot of rotating. maybe bowles felt it was better to have everyone fresh then have our 4 best on the field at once all game?
Not at all surprised by this. The moment we took our 3rd 1st round DE in 4 years is when this should have been known. Only thing I was surprised by was seeing Douzable over Coples at DE. Snacks deserves to get his snaps even in a 4-3 but I would've thought Coples would be the 5th guy. Now with Snacks on his last year and Coples cap number next year I'll be surprised if either is here. For the meantime, however, I like Mauldin and Pace rotating at that OLB spot along with the 4-2-5 look. A lot of options TB has.
that's the beauty of the 4 man front and the related personnel, all of them are interchangeable - being at the game, Wilk was all over the d-line, I saw him as a DE, saw him as a DT. I think it was to keep them fresh as well - I agree. Douzable always gets like 20+ snaps a game, so on passing downs, I think I saw Wilk inside with Douzable as a DE. Snacks was off the field. Its a good problem to have.
