The punt block and two near blocked punts are not Quigley's fault. In fact, I'd argue part of his punting problems are due to a lack of trust in his protection and he is gun shy. I think he's been hit half a dozen times this season. A mediocre punter is now a bad punter. But even a good punter isn't making this unit better
He's terrible and the coverage is equally as bad. A punter can help his coverage out by getting good hang time on his punts forcing a quick decision by the returner or a fair catch. Quigley doesn't do that. He boots the ball off the side of his foot half the time and the other half of the time he pops a low liner right to the returner. He's as bad as they come in this league.
punt return is just as big an issue as punt coverage. how many times have we forced a team to punt inside their 20 or 10 and instead getting great field position we end up on our own 25 because kerley fair catches a 55+ yard punt i thought the bye week would have been a great time to bring in some guys off the street and audition them as returners. we could certainly use another josh cribbs type signing.
