Jets TEs through the first 4 games: 5 targets, 2 catches 10 yards. They are on pace to set some records...records Gailey set at his previous stops. The season lows for TE :Targets: 28 (2010 Bills - under Chan Gailey) Receptions: 16 (2000 Dolphins under Chan Gailey) Yards: 171 (2004 Steelers)
i don't mind at all simply bc TE is not a position utilized by Chan Gailey so it's not hurting us. It's not that we havent utilized TE because we don't have a good one, it's bc TE really isn't a part of Chan's system in the passing game.
Sadly, that's what I think of our current healthy group of TEs..... When Ivory was hurt, I bet Powell would've appreciated having ole "Stone Hands" in there to pave the way......
That may be a chicken-vs-egg thing. He may not utilize the TE because he never had one with good enough ball skills. If he had a Witten/Graham/Gronkowski/Gates type TE (which Amaro could conceivably turn into), I'm sure he'd find a way to get them the ball. He'd have to be an idiot not to.
If the question is, "are you happy that we are not focusing any offense on our tight ends," the answer is absolutely. If the question is, "are you happy with our current tight ends," the answer is a resounding no. They are pretty bad. And I'm an Enunwa fan.
The problem with your theory/approach is that Cumberland is neither an effective blocker nor decoy. He's basically a wasted spot in the starting lineup and on the roster. Having a true two-way effective TE would make the offense more flexible, less predictable, and would help open things up even more in the rushing and passing attacks, give Fitzpatrick a safety valve, and be a nice threat in the red zone. I am content to live with it this season, knowing that the position isn't that important in Gailey's offense, and that all the Jets' holes couldn't be filled in one season. Mac did what he could to shore up the position by adding a veteran blocker in Kellen Davis. Mac couldn't help that Amaro is soft as a baby bunny rabbit or that the Jets had so many holes and more pressing needs to address. I feel very confident that the position will be addressed in the offseason, either via FA, the draft or both. Amaro may be given another chance to show that he wasn't a wasted pick, and Saxton shows some promise as a receiver.
Between the TE position and the OLB position I don't which one is more shunned by this team. When u have had young QB's in the mix over the years I would think a reliable TE would be a priority....... and every base 3-4\4-6 D should have one pro bowler at OLB. I really don't know what the Fuckin problem is with that. I guess its mostly rex and tangy to blame the most with their BS picks at fullback and corner.
Can we at least bring in someone who can block well. Someone who can do well at one dimension of the game. Cumby is pretty useless at everything as is the other joker who is supposed to be a blocking TE. Is Becht available?
In fairness to the Jets, and I'm not trying to put you on the spot, but I would like to ask, what OLB have they passed on in the previous drafts that have turned into all pro or HOF player? Some of the OLB selected by other teams have been good, but not so good that we as fans felt we passed on a great player. I can think of some OLBs that this forum wanted the jets to draft and thank goodness they did not, but I can't think of one that they passed on, who is now considered elite.
Vic Beasley could potentially be an all-pro. He's looked good for the Falcons so far. As much as I love the Leonard Williams pick (and think he'll turn into a pereinnal all-pro), Vic Beasley would have fit our current defense more.
Yep It's more than a name Jimmy Graham is dog poop in Seattle They are 2-3 and unimpressive We need a QB and more... It's a team game
i mind. we dont have a great qb where we can always get away with it. and we have already seen the effect it has on the team when decker isnt in the lineup. we need some ind of threat at TE, so decker/marhsall arent blanketed all game. as is, defenses dont have to worry about the deep ball. not having to worry about the TE either just makes us easier to defend. we havent really faced anyone good defensively yet. what happens when someone can take marshall out of the game?
