That we can remove the hook and ladder while falling down with defenders surrounding you from the playbook. At the time all I could think was the risk/reward for doing that was maaybe and extra 4-5 yards from I believe Cumberland. Surprised there's not a thread on this. That was the worst football play I've ever seen. It already has its own keyword search on google. I was furious at the time. Can't do much but almost laugh at it at this point. Just like all the stupid mistakes the Lions made in tonight's game to lose, you have to think some franchises are just blessed with a few terrible terrible plays each year. And sorry guys. There just needs to be a thread for this.
Every team makes dumb ass plays. People on here think the Jets should be perfect at everything. The other team gets paid also. This shit does happen.
What really scares me is that Fitz can't throw a deep ball. What's going to happen when Smith is up to speed and we can't get the ball to him? I know it's just one game, but I can't wait to see Bryce Petty. I know it'll be a few years, but let's trade Wilkerson and get a QB that can throw deep. Forget Geno.
It's an embarrassment that our starting Tight End has been Jeff Cumberland consistently for the past few years.
I think the future of the NFL will have more rugby style pitch/lateral toss plays. Today's attempt was 'executed' poorly and may only have resulted in 4-5 more yards if executed with better percision. However, skilled player ball handling ability is adequately adaptable to both pitch and catch a football. A runner in space will find great gains given opportunity. There is no reason not to give a runner that opportunity when points, down and distance and general field position reign paramount for the success of a football team. I think we will see more attempts similar to Brandon's folly as the league progresses into the future ..
That was CLEARLY not designed. Brandon Marshall just made a boneheaded decision. Cumberland looked as shocked as each of us were.
Admittedly I don't watch all Jets games but I do believe you can do worse, at least pre-2015. Teams like NE (and to lesser extents NO, BAL, and KC) have revolutionized the TE position and suddenly everyone thinks its the most required position on offense. Just because 1/8th of the league has or have had heavy TE based offenses doesn't suddenly make the position a requirement. The Jets have one of the better starting WR duo's in Marshal and Decker along with some good RB's. Every team has some missteps along the way, after last season 2-1 is a pretty good spot to be in for the Jets. Remember, both Revis and Cromartie are battling leg injuries, your #1 QB (or at least he should be) is coming back from a broken jaw, your #2 WR has already missed a game, your top TE is on IR, etc. The Jets, regardless of what most of you do or don't believe, are probably one of the AFC's top teams, behind NE/DEN and maybe Cincy/Pitt. That's a playoff spot.
I can agree with this. It's still early, but I think the AFC playoff teams will be NE/DEN/IND/Cinci (division winners). And I think the Bills and Jets will be wildcard teams, with an outside chance of Oakland getting a WC spot, but I don't think so. Pittsburgh could be out of the playoffs entirely now with the Big Ben injury.
After watching a zillion replays yesterday of it, I see what Marshall saw. He turned, saw only his teammate and decided to go for it. Then as he started to shovel it, an Eagles player came out of nowhere and it was too late. On that note, it's the NFL. Just go down and live to see another play.
If Cumby catchez that and scampers for 7 we'd all be talking about how awesome our team is. Maybe Marshall knew we needef dumb plays to work out in order to beat the Iggles. Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
One of two things happened on that play: 1. Brandon Marshall didn't understand the "Butt Fumble" phenomenon and fell into the trap of brainlocking on the field somehow and joined the holy pantheon of widely publicized squirmy Jets moments as a result. 2. Brandon Marshall did understand the "Butt Fumble" phenomenon and wanted to get in on the action, to guarantee that something of his contribution to the Jets would stand the test of time and become a Youtube spectacular. The question of the day is whether Bill Parcells would have cut him in a fury and to make the point that you can't ever be that stupid on the football field and play for him. I'm guessing the answer is no but it would have made for a compelling Monday as we all waited with bated breath for the other shoe to fall.
I think Parcells would've choked him out on the sideline til the other coaches pulled him off. Marshall's lucky we have a laced coach.
It was about as dumb a play as you can have and it occurred at a truly awful time right after going down 17-0. But I'm not gonna kill Marshall for the play because without him there is a good chance the Jets are 1-2 right now, he might be the most important player on this offense right now and he was the only weapon we had yesterday. That being said... WTF Marshall!
almost as boneheaded as the Marshall play was Coples' 3rd down hands-to-the-face penalty which clinched the game. So stupid on many levels. It was completely unnecessary as it was 3rd and 16 and they were running the ball.. it was away from the play.. and it was about the only thing that we couldn't afford to have happen. at least Marshall was trying to make a play. Coples was just plain stupid.
I get more baffled every time I watch it. Even on the unbelievably slim chance where that football actually gets to Cumberland, what happens? He gains 2 yards at the most before getting swarmed. Just a dumb in the moment decision, but unusually dumb. Can't say that "every team" makes plays like that.
