Completely disagree with Revis not being a team player. Just because he is out to get the most money for himself, that's not mutually exclusive to giving his all to the team. His practice habits and willingness to talk to and teach younger players is quite well known as a positive. Have you ever seen Revis take a play off? By the way, everyone's overthinking this. Leading from the side of the field? What are you talking about? It's not like he's going to be doing much "captaining" on the damn field. Harris will be the one relaying plays. Being a captain, IMO, is more a symbolic thing - you want the guy most everyone on the team respects - I don't think either Harris nor Revis would be a bad choice. Surprised more people aren't mentioning Big Mo...I think he'd be a solid choice, especially if they pick 2 captains from each side of the ball.
That what I'm talking about. I don't care if we have captains or not. "Just win baby". Al said it best.
Hmm, well, I've heard players saying that Revis teaches them a lot in the film room, helps them out with technique, etc. I think he's a team player; he's not a selfish diva type and he's humble. Harris is more of a leader, so I do see your point. But Revis is going to Canton and he's the face of the franchise; I think it'd be weird if there were captains and he wasn't one.
Is there anyone more deserving in the league to have that captain patch than Mangold? Dude is THE CAPTAIN.
Week to week captains is the right decision at this point. Better to see his players over the course of a season before that kind of responsibility is thrown around. Next year I wouldn't be surprised if they were back though.
I think it if wasn't for the Geno situation we probably would have had a permanent captain. Now that he's out you can't make Fitz the permanent captain because if he struggles and Geno comes in that would be kind of odd. Now you can have Fitz as captain here and there until and if he struggles, and then make Geno captain again once/if he returns and plays well. But I have to agree with whoever brought up Mangold earlier. He's one of those rare centers that would be a team captain on any team unless you have a Peyton/Brady type QB. I don't get why they don't show him that type of respect that he deserves. Plus it would take pressure off your young QB and it would put more pressure on Nick's shoulders and he can handle that. He has the credibility, the body of work, whatever it is, to call out anybody he wants on any given week because each week he will perform at the highest level, he can hold everybody else to a higher standard. It's not like with Ray Lewis at the end where people respected him because of his legacy and what he's done, but he just played garbage and really had no right to call anybody out. Nick is like Ray, but he's still performing at a HOF type level.
I'd say its time to bring the C patches back and it should be Marshall and Revis. Both vets are truly leading by example out there and are making others around them better.
