hey all, nice site here. i'm impressed with what i've read here so far. I think mangini did great getting schott. while maybe he gets a little too cute at times, I think he does a great job of recognizing this offenses' strengths & weaknesses. I think the detroit game will be a good oppurtunity for him to try less gadget plays & utilise brad smith as a downfield receiver. until smith can be effective as a wr, the gadgets to him are gonna get tougher & predictable. Just the fact that leon is carrying the ball show him to be a very open minded oc willing to try anything & anyone to improve our chances to move the ball. I give him an A for what he's done thus far. In time he'll be a great one. does he have a brother who can run the defense?
Schott's first quarter play calling has been awful. The Jets are the champions of the 2nd and 3rd quarter.
It's hard to remember with a better than expected start but the entire organization from our rookie offensive lineman to our head coach and offensive coordinator is a work in progress. We didn't go after the proven, experienced guys and it's going to take some time for everyone to reach their full potential. I love what Schottenheimer has done so far and with just about everything else with the team he has all the potential in the world. It's a matter of week after week improving and hopefully everything well come together at the right time.
Well considering abyzmul posted that on Saturday morning, I'm fairly certain today's first quarter offense wasn't a factor. Up until today, the Jets offense HAS been poor in the first quarter.
Why don't you mosey back on up the thread and check when I posted that? Maybe see if it was before or after today's game. Yes, I can see that Leon Washington executed himself into the starting lineup this week. And we were passing downfield because of mere execution, not because the Lions have a worse defense than we do, and we had effectively established the run in the first drive of the game. The gameplan didn't change much, it was just more effective against a team we matched up well against. Schott isn't bad in my book, I think he's going to develop into a solid OC, but the fickle nonsense that goes on with this board after wins and losses is remarkable.
TRhe first thing he has to do is BURN the page with the quick side-line pass. It was called 5 times last week and every time I see it....I have visions of INT 6 the other way.
Schott's been a very good OC so far. The fact that we're scoring points this year without a running game to speak of and with a young o-line is pretty impressive. He's not God, like some in this thread feel, but he looks like a good OC now, and I would think he'd always get better. Hopefully we can stay deep into the playoffs all the time and hold Schott hostage like Crennell was.
I wouldn't complain about the O line. I think they've done a remarkable job considering we have rookies at the 2 O line positions. Fergie and Mangold have been great so far. Moore is consistant as is Kendall. Clement surprised me a bit with getting the nod at RT but hes been solid as well. For the most part, our line is young...I think Kendall is the only one over 30. We desperately need a FB though....I'd love to get local boy Brian Leonard over here to do the blocking and dirty work that a FB does and never gets credit for. He could make our offense much better. He's an impact guy at a position that goes unnoticed by most.
