Shaq will be on someones practice squad this season. Ours or elsewhere. If Powell doesn't screw up this week you'd have to expect he's going to win the return man job.
gotta love the title of this thread, what does the OP think the Jets should carry 53? You have 22 starters plus a couple of kickers, a long snapper and a couple other special teamers. If each had one backup you would already be at 53 so 8 receivers is more than just a luxury here.

I've seen him play and I don't think he's a bad player. I wasn't able to watch most of the exhibition games this year because we were on vacation for the past two games. I don't you cut him at this stage of the pre-season because you don't have anyone experienced or good to replace him and Amaro has been injured. And you certainly don't make a guy a TE in Sept. If you were going to do this you'd do that a month ago.
JK had over 800 yards receiving 3 seasons ago. People really think Rodgers or some other upper tier QB can't find a way to get the best out of him. Also, a better organization, a fresh start and a chip on his shoulder is going to get him giving his all.
None of that changes the fact that he really hasn't done shit for us in 2 seasons. Of course the QB situation comes into play but there's more to it than that. Maybe he needs a change of scenery, because apparently the new CS doesn't think all that highly of him for reasons unknown.
I don't totally disagree with that. I do feel like he finds a way to get open on 3rd down a ton, but Geno always seems to throw it out of his catch radius (JK's catch radius could also just be what it is, since he's 5'9 and not super athletic) If he doesn't stay a jet, then so be it. I trust the CS so far. I just don't want to cut him and pay him the guaranteed $$$. I'd love to get something for him though. Maybe a late round pick.
I think if they thought about cutting him they would have done so by now, there really is no need to wait until the final cuts. He's still a starter in my eyes, he fucked it all up by getting popped for smoking weed.
I'm not a fan of Evans, but who is available that is that much better? Granted I haven't seen the complete list of cuts and FAs who are out there, and don't keep up with other teams very much, but I haven't seen any WR names out there that bowl me over with their talent or ability to play. Who have I missed?
