If the Jets allow 280 pts this year with Fitzpatrick playing all 16 games odds are really good they go 11-5 or something like that. If they allow 420 they're going to go 5-11. The number of points the Jets offense is going to score this year if Fitzpatrick is the starter for all 16 games is somewhere between 320 and 360. That's based on the talent they have and Fitzpatrick's track record over a decade in the NFL. It's not a world beating number at all but it is more than enough to make a run at the playoffs if the defense is good. If Geno starts we're looking at somewhere between 280 points and his ceiling, whatever that is. Again, that's based on his track record and the fact that he's still young enough and has good enough physical attributes for some real improvement to occur naturally in his third season. My gut tells me that the Jets are 9-7 with Fitzpatrick and 8-8 with Geno but it was way off last year so I just don't know. I believed the "Geno has turned a corner" talk in camp last season and factored that in. This year if he's the QB I want to see it before I'll believe any of it. With Fitzpatrick I don't have to see it. He's a competent QB with a proven track record and the Jets fortunes will lie mainly with the defense being good if he's the guy. That's a risk I'm willing to take. I was upset at Geno last year after the Raiders game opening week. The Jets left 10 points on the field that game because Geno wasn't making quick decisions. That was the story of the season.
totally agree. W-L is not an individual stat at all. people try to apply it to QB's, and it's very lazy.
Unless you have a sick Vinny-type arm you aren't throwing deep in January anyway playing here or the other Northeast cities like NE, Pittsburgh, Baltimore. The Chiefs were good two years ago, their D just melted down against Luck. Last year their D had a lot of injuries (Berry, Johnson, etc).
Good points made by others posters concerning W/L stat, but this one was pretty lazy. With that said, W/L is important (I think) to look at with respect to Fitzpatrick. To counter your lazy post I'm adding my lazy post on a beach and without stats to cover my flanks. I am told Fitz has failed to lead, more than a few, comeback drives to win. Football is a team sport, however it would seem Quarterbacks shoulder large responsibility for the W/L stat when given the ball, clock and final opportunity to win. I will follow up, unless someone does before me, to prove or disprove my earlier claim that Fitz has lost when the game was at its most important stage; under five minutes and with the ball in his hands.

Not confident in Fitz 'magic', but i hope he is a stud. Would have preferred to see if Geno was ready for the big step up, of course Geno's maturity (or lack there of) may have already proven that Geno was never going to take the next step
It's not like Geno is the comeback kid either. In the following games last season, Geno had the ball in the 4th quarter with the chance to tie or win, and didn't: - Week 2 @ Green Bay - Week 3 vs. Chicago - Week 4 vs Detroit - Week 6 vs Denver - Week 7 @ New England - Week 13 vs Miami - Week 14 @ Minnesota - Week 16 vs New England That's 8 "failed comebacks" in one season. In several of those games, he had the ball in a comeback situation multiple times.

I see more potential in him as well, but while I've traditionally defended Geno, the one thing I've always questioned is his on-field mental toughness. I've seen him fold in crucial game situations not only by failing to execute, but by flat out panicking. Running backwards, throwing 20 feet over a receiver's head. He's not very cool in the clutch. Even in his rookie year when he lead all of those "game winning drives" many of them were gift wrapped, like Lavonte David's late hit or the ridiculous field goal rule vs the Pats. I need to see him stop panicking when the game is on the line.
Fitz went 6-6 last season and we arguably have a better better team than last years Texans. It's not crazy to think that we can make a run with him. If he's playing well and the team is winning by the time geno comes back I don't see how you can take Fitz out considering realistically that our window will close very soon with all the aging talent we have on this team.
