Oh yeah I get that but he was playing at a very high level last year when he went down. And he apparently rehabbed his shoulder while he was rehabbing his knee and he said his arm is like when he was in his 20s. Pipe dream for sure, but he's a USC QB I'd take in a second. _
I'm trying to figure out scenarios that might be real world...unfortunately, while yes...I would take a low round pick for Mettenberger, he's their entire decent depth over there. Mettenberger isn't going anywhere in the short term. God, could you imagine this board if we brought Tebow back? I think the server would burn. LOL!!
I like Mettenberger, but imo the Jets aren't going to keep 4 QBs on their roster, and I don't think Geno is going anywhere. I also would be very surprised if the Titans would deal Mettenberger. Now if Geno is done with the Jets after this season and Fitz doesn't play well or retires, then I'd be interested in trading for Mettenberger to compete with Petty for the starting job.
I'd rather have Tebow back. HEAD: He's not the QB solution we need. He's barely a QB. He's (probably) not going to take us to the playoffs. HEART: He tries hard. He's a nice chap. His unorthodox style will be worth watching. At least I can root for a guy who's not a primaddona, jerk, convict, sex offender, etc... Hopefully Petty, Hackenberger or whoever can then develop safely in the background and away from the media until they are ready to play.
What do you do with Geno then? What about Petty? What about Fitz? He didn't look any better than Geno from what I've seen him do against the Falcons. He's better in the pocket, shows more poise, but really, against the Falcons? Against the Falcons 3rd string defense? Zero pass rush, horrible backfield, those guys couldn't cover anything. Did you expect him to fall apart against those bums? He should have been picked twice (underthrown) on two deep balls, he got lucky his receiver came back once to make a good play on an underthrown pass once but really, that's sort of what we're used to from Geno so I don't see this as an upgrade. We have two guys who are capable of starting this year, and one waiting in the wings. Mettenburger is not a better option than Fitz or Geno, he doesn't know the offense and you won't get to see him until we're out of the playoff race. At which point nobody is going to care. You don't trade for a starting QB right when the season is about to begin, that makes no sense. Might as well wait a year and trade for him on draft day for a late round pick. Or sign him as a FA.
It's a very short term role for whomever they bring in. Geno will be back on this roster early in the season. He's not gone forever. So whomever they pick up will be here for the last two weeks of pre season. They will be cut prior to Week one as vested veterans salary would be guaranteed for the season otherwise. They that QB will be here until Geno gets activated. As for Mettenberger or say Glennon, the Jets just invested a 4th round pick in Bryce Petty. They aren't going to invest further picks in another low round QB at this point.
