One of those physical afflictions I can't retain how to spell and for which my phone doesn't auto correct. FUCK YOU IPHONE! _
the backup O-lineman were better than years' past. Still not a dominant group by any means but at least the 2nd & 3rd offense could run plays, unlike years past when they were just horrendous
Agree with most of this. Forgot to mention Sheldon earlier. David Harris - I disagree there. It was Demario Davis, but maybe I'll have to look at it again. Lenny was brought back to planet earth after all that Watt talk. I know he wants to be the best, everybody should strive to be the best. But you have A LOT of work to do to get there and I'm sure this game will make him work even harder on himself to get there. Dex is not "suspect". He just needs a lot of playing time to catch up. Diamond in the rough, once he feels comfortable out there he'll be a good corner. Also, give credit to Ameer, the guy looks like he will be a Pro Bowl type runner if the Lions really ride him, which they won't because of their passing attack, but he's gonna be really good this year.
No, he's not. The guys you know will be great in the NFL are the guys who started for 4 years in college and looked great doing it. The guys who started for three years and looked great are next in line. Cardale Jones was on the bench for a reason last year as a Red Shirt Sophomore (Junior in everything but name). There's no way in hell he comes out looking like a Grade-A franchise QB. He's not even guaranteed to get the starting QB job this year. He's in a competition. If he has a good year and he's smart he won't come out next year. His best shot at a top draft is in the 2017 draft after 2 good seasons. The guy is entering his fourth year at Ohio State and he has started 3 games. Seriously, think about it.
The QB's who have won Super Bowls since 2005: Ben Roethlisberger x2 Peyton Manning Eli Manning x2 Drew Brees Aaron Rodgers Joe Flacco Russell Wilson Tom Brady You need a great QB to win a Super Bowl these days. The only guy on that list not going to the Hall of Fame at this point is Joe Flacco and if he wins another ring he might make it also. Russell Wilson will make it unless he gets hurt. It's a QB-centric era in the NFL right now. If you don't have one you are capped. Over the next few years we're going to likely add Andrew Luck to the list and see a couple of guys on the list repeat.
My thoughts are its week 1 of preseason with a new coaching staff and it's not worth worrying about at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I liked how when he did see a sure sack he covered the ball and if there was a rush he stepped in the pocket. I know his stat line was ugly but he showed some promise
For his first pre-season game he did pretty good. If you think Geno didn't have any weapons or protection the last two years look at what Petty had to work with.
No INTs. I know the passes were "safe" but zero INTs. It is a little thing for him to build on. Plus, he took the physical beating
Andrew Lucks and Mannings come around like once a decade. You don't need a great QB to win it all, you need a good QB that is playing at the highest level possible at that time. That's your Flaccos and Eli Mannings, even to an extent Russell Wilson. These guys were never in the top 5 in regards to QB rankings and certainly not on the level of Luck or Manning. No one knew about Flacco prior to the draft, he was drafted in the middle of the first round. Russell Wilson was drafted much later. Rodgers had to sit on the bench for seasons on seasons. 2-14, 4-12 - these records aren't required to get the top QB. Heck, next draft you will see plenty of prospects and maybe only 1 or 2 will go in the top 10 in terms of being drafted. You need a guy that fits what you are trying to do and that guy must be smart enough to make plays and not hurt the football team. We've had chances to grab a good QB that would fit this team, but we passed on them for other players.
I'm not going to get too concerned over pre-season game 1. But I did have some thoughts. I think Fitzpatrick looked fine. Should have been 3 for 3 with an opportunity for a TD. That pass to Cumberland was a very nice play by Fitzpatrick getting rid of the ball at the perfect time. Drops happen, but I certainly wont hold it against Fitz. I saw some good with Petty and some bad. Some poorly timed throws, didnt look like he was totally comfortable for a while. I saw him step up into the pocket when facing pressure, which was nice to see. Feel like we havent seen that since Favre. Ivory looked like Ivory. Jets will lean on him as heavy as they can, health permitting. Powell was Powell. Just a good, safe football player. Will absolutely contribute this year. Richardson struggled, wouldnt be shocked for him to not make the team. Decker and Marshall seemed fine. I'm not concerned about them, I know they'll contribute. With Fitz at the helm, they'll probably do better than they would have with Geno. I dont remember seeing much of Kerley. Everyone besides them I wasnt impressed with. I was hoping to see Enunwa prove that he belongs, but he had a pretty bad drop. I think the Jets will have a nice top 5 of Marshall, Decker, Smith, Kerley and Owusu. An injury or two would be crippling though. I didnt focus too much on the OLine. Maybe I'll look tonight. If anyone else wants to shed some light there, I would appreciate it. DLine didnt look good. They got shredded by Abdullah. Now with no Wilk/Richardson, I cant imagine that will happen in the regular season. Leonard Williams I saw had some nice penetration but also looked a bit overwhelmed at times. That will happen with rookies. I liked that dude Simon, thought I saw some decent things. Demario Davis struggled. That probably frustrated me the most. He got turned around and straight up missed a bunch of tackles. If Davis continues to play like this, ILB Joe Mays might have a lot to play for. I saw Coples get pressure a couple of times. Always nice to see. I was really excited to watch IK play, but that probably wont happen. Mauldin was the one that surprised the hell out of me. Obviously the kid is super easy to root for given his backstory, but I didnt have much faith. Of the tape I saw, I wasnt sure he had the athleticism to make it as an every down pass rusher. He looked like he was on fire last night. He was vicious. Hopefully he learns to sack the QB without looking like he is going to maul him like a bear. CB's were a bit of a roller coaster. Revis is Revis. Cromartie I am a bit nervous about come the regular season. I said earlier in the summer that if healthy, Milliner would steal the number 2 spot from Cromartie. Very few agreed with me lol. If Milliner can actually stay healthy, I can still see that happening by the end of the season. McDougle and Williams both had some pass defenses, and also got beat a couple times. Loved the INT by Williams. He'll be a solid contributor this season. No Kyle Wilson penalties, that was nice for a change. I'm not too concerned about the secondary. Pryor wiffed a couple times. I wasnt too impressed. I liked Rontez Miles though. Special teams looked good. The backup punter had a couple damn good punts.
That's true. But the same could be said for the other 2 TEs that were taken before him in the draft (ASJ, Ebron) Fact is we don't have a great TE. Amaro has the best upside. He's more valuable on the field IMO.
TE is going to be an issue on this team. Thankfully I didn't draft a TE in my fantasy league and wound up picking up Tyler Eifert off the scrap heap. He's having a great camp for Cinn. Now lets see Mac do the same.. Dustin Keller anyone?
Idk i was streaming but i coulda sworn that was harris the ball went right over on that Tate TD... I admit being a little harsh on Dex, i do like the kid.. guess it's just because i waited so long to see him play and his first time in the spot light he gets scored on lol. Forgetting he's pretty much a rookie still. And yes i love Ameer he's my favorite player in the draft he did what i expect him to do.. but idk.. something tells me Mo woulda ate that play up where ameer had demario spinning in circles lol
To everyone writing this off a just a preseason game and no big deal; really?does that tackling form remind you of a team that practices the basics? Additionally, how do you suppose a decent coach would react to this chicken shit effort. Lets hope Bowles is holdingt hem accountable and running non-stop tackle drills.
