Matt Flynn was just cut by NEP who then signed Ryan Lindley. He must have looked pretty bad if they think Lindley is better than him. This guy is not good in preseason. But he's servicable on game day. No more starting a rookie Qb. Just hope that Fitz is healthy enough to play.
NO NO NO NO NO Part of why both Sanchez and Geno sucked so bad is that they were thrown into starting in their rookie years when they should have never been near the field.
I think they fired Matt Flynn because his hamstring was still injured. They wanted someone who'd be ready to play in the preseason, even if that means taking an inferior QB. I'd be okay with the Jets taking Flynn as our new backup/veteran QB, depending on how close his hamstring is to healing. Like you said, hopefully Fitz will stay healthy.
Let Petty get the preseason work and some work with the two's this year. Maybe he can challenge for a job next year. this Franchise won't see a seasoned QB for about 4 years.
Bryce Petty isn't ready......I don't want to throw him to the Wolves I rather see him sit and learn awile .
I'm more of a Bryce Petty fan than anyone. I believe he is the future franchise QB. But he straight up looks like trash in practice. He ain't ready.
Because it would be fucking stupid to do so! He's not ready. At a minimum, he needs to sit for a year, maybe even two. Are you really that stupid? How many QB prospects do the Jets have to ruin by throwing them to the wolves before you wise up? Unbelievable how stupid some fans are.
I think they will try to get someone more experienced than Flynn. If not, then the QB must at least be familiar with Chan's offense (Hence their Thigpen interest). My money is on Rex Grossman. I don't want Thigpen, Grossman, or Vick, but they need a viable backup. One thing is for sure, Bryce Petty will play at least a half on thursday. Even if they sign a veteran by thursday, I don't think they will just throw him in there. For the people who keep insisting Petty should start...look at what history says. This franchise threw Sanchez and Geno in right away and their developments were completely messed up. Bryce needs to sit down. That being said, I am still excited to see him play thursday since I believe he will be the starting QB in 2 years.
I agree. Petty is the future, not the present. They got him when they did because he has serious flaws in his game that need correcting before he's seriously ready to compete. He's got the tools to win but simply throwing him out there and praying isn't the way to pull his talent out of him.
Most sane people think this way. We've ruined our last 2 Qb's by playing them before they were ready. Let Fitz drive the offense this year. Petty carries his clipboard and charts plays ONLY. If Fitz gets hurt, then yeah, play Petty but find a journeyman willing to get pounded for a few bucks to play out the string.
Bryce Petty should get tons of preseason experience; but like you said, he will not be ready to start in the 2015 regular season. Sanchez was drafted top 5 overall, so he was inevitably going to start as a rookie. Smith wasn't supposed to start as a rookie necessarily, but that decision was forced by the infamous Snoopy Bowl incident. So it was understandable that we started those QBs as rookies; but yeah it'd be foolish to throw Petty out there when he's not ready. I think Petty could potentially be our QB of the future, but he certainly has a large learning curve to overcome. He played in no huddle, fast, spread offense and it'll take him awhile to not only learn the playbook but also re-learn how to play the QB position. If he has a great showing in his preseason games, that can help his case to start in 2016 if Smith has failed to solidify himself as our starter.
