Pennington didn't have the best arm, but made up for it with accuracy. Peyton Manning arm strength is gone, but he gets by with his football IQ. Alex Smith's arm is in the bottom of the league, but he doesn't turn it over and doesn't miss a slant pass. Even Sam Bradford's has lost a ton of velocity because of arm surgery and other injuries, but Chip Kelly picked him over Foles who had the stronger arm. In the end, though arm strength can be a great benefit to a QB, a QB who makes good decisions, has an OC who understands there skill set and a good pass catchers around a QB can offset the limitations that come with having a weaker arm. Also see: Cutler, Stafford, Kaepernick, Newton, Griffin, Jake Locker - Not a ton of success from these guys.
The difference is that every player you listed has a very quick release. Davis winds up when he needs to put velocity on the ball. Most of those players listed have exceptional footwork and pocket presence as well. It helps a lot when they slide into the right spot in the pocket so they can position their bodies to the point where even if they need to wind up they can. Arm strength isn't the only thing that matters but if you don't have it to the outside of the numbers you better be damn good at the other things. Like I said he seems like a sparkplug type of guy who may hang around the league as a backup. I just really don't see the hype especially when teams now have him on tape and can gameplan differently against him.
We should adopt a volume approach and sign every middling QB out there in hopes of finding the next Rich Gannon.
What..lightning in a bottle, that treats QB's playing now, like he was Joe fucking Montana when he played. (Like Steve Young that mysteriously forgets the 8 years he spent in the league being...No one..of all the guys doing announcing today, Simms seems to be the only one that recalls the fact that he spent most of a decade, not being a Champion)
Bump for Austin Davis lovers. Case Keenum getting the start for Nick Foles, while this guy is still in free agency. I guess the rest of the high paying executives in the NFL still don't believe this guys a future starter in this league like some of you do/did.
You mean like that one dude at the bar who hits on every woman who comes in ... ( 99 out of 100 may say no, but all it takes is one yes! )
