Disagree. The way their defense is built they don't ask their corners to do much. They run a cover 1 type defense where Earl Thomas covers the entire backfield by himself, he's a true centerfielder and the key to their success. Chancellor is a box safety. So all the cornerbacks have to do is worry about the first 5-15 yards, they can basically play zone all day and peek at the QB and read his eyes almost all the time because they don't have many responsibilities. They either jam the receiver to disrupt their routes or they give a 5 yard cushion and just play zone. With the pass rush and Earl Thomas taking away the deep ball the corners are always in a prime position to jump routes and make plays on the ball. Either that or the QB takes the sack. Sherman is perfect for Seattle's defense but I don't think he'd be an All Pro in 95% of the other teams. Revis is an all pro corner on every defense. And Sherman doesn't shadow receivers, so of course teams don't force the ball in his direction. It's not because of how great he is but because the #1 receiver usually (without gameplanning even) lines up on the other side. If you put Revis on Calvin Johnson of course Stafford is gonna throw it in his direction at least 5-10 times. If you put some chump like Cotchery on Sherman he might not get a single ball thrown to him with Benjamin on the other side vs SEA's #2 corner. That doesn't mean Sherman is so good nobody goes anywhere near him, it's the direct opposite almost. If he'd shadow #1 receivers I'd give him credit but he doesn't. And then he claims that's what makes him the best corner in the NFL. He's ridiculous.
True, but at the same time Revis landed flush on him while putting Harvin down and he also showed his hand strength by ripping the ball out of Harvin's hands. One nice thing on that play was the fact that Harvin didn't break stride by jumping for the highly thrown pass (something I noticed among a lot of Jet receivers doing last year up in Cortland during position drills and made mention of) which allowed him additional YAC.
Last game Revis played he got torched pretty bad in the Super Bowl. He's not the same player he was in '09 and '10.
Yeah, of course. He signed with the New York Jets. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...le-revis-new-york-jets-agree-to-terms-on-deal
Revis is our Superbowl, its funny how a fan base can go from 2yrs of despising a player, to hailing him as a god now
Well they did the same thing in Cleveland with LeBron James and all is good now. At least we weren't burning Revis jerseys in the streets. We just put up billboards because they didn't try to bring him back!
Best or not, Sherman and Revis arw both beasts and I (and most NFL fans) would be happy with either of these guys on my defense It's a stupid/pointless argument
I never hated Revis, and I never threw away his jersey or anything silly like that. I still have Shaun Ellis' jersey too, even though he went to the Pats for a year as well. I'm glad he came back, partially due to the dire need in our secondary and partially because of what he means to me as a Jets fan. I've never been a overly emotional fan but I understand why some people are reactionary in terms of allegiances to players. Granted I never would have worn #24 when he was on the Pats, but I'm happy to pick it back up now.
Hopefully we will be going to the Superbowl then.....and unlike the Cavs and LeBron and win, wishful thinking
I guess you missed how JJ Watt completely dominated the NFL last year. There is no comparison what Watt did last year to what Revis did in '09.
Watt had arguably the best season recorded for a defensive end in 2014, Revis had arguably the best season in 2009 for a cornerback, it's definitely comparable, but I'm not surprised that a rival fan would make a stupid comment like that. Especially after that stupid Super Bowl comment.
In 2014, Watt was the unanimous choice for Defensive Player of the Year. In 2009, Revis didn't even win the award, losing out to a player who played the exact same position.
