It's hard to believe Mac ignored a position that had no viable upgrade on the market. Guess we could have traded Wilk and a draft pick for Foles, making us a 12-4 by your logic.
If the Jets get competent QB play they'll make the playoffs. Then they'll need a little more out of the position to make a run. We have no idea whether Geno is the type of QB to step up when the playoff lights are on (Flacco) or burst into flames and an early tee time (Dalton). I hope we get to find out this year.
There's no guarantee that even if we got competent play that we'd make the playoffs. Look around the league how many average-good qb's miss the playoffs yearly even when their teams are talented.
Competing for the playoffs is a realistic possibility with competent QB play. This defense has the potential to be a top defense in the league. With Geno or Fitz playing decent, the RBs will have more room to run.
Elite Defense, good running game and quality WR, we are a legitimate playoff team. Until you look at the QBs and you think top ten pick in the draft next year.
Let's put it this way: If I had to bet on "competant QB play" or a kilo of Peruvian Cocaine dropping into our stadium...... I am looking for snow white.
Geno Smith was "competent" last year, he just had nobody to throw to and tried to do too much himself. But I went back and watched a couple games from last year that I DVR'd, week 3 and week 17, and he was solid in both of those games (great in week 17 with the perfect QBR). Jon Gruden, no less, was raving about him in that week 3 monday night game. The developmental years are over, and he did great considering he had lousy OC and poor receivers his first 2 seasons. We should expect a big leap forward in year 3, with a deep receiving corps and a better OC.
An average to above average QB would make the Jets a 10+ win team. With someone like Andy Dalton, I think Jets can cause some noise in the playoffs.
So, throwing three straight INTs on the first three offensive plays of a game is not his fault. That is a record which will never be broken, and its all Geno's. I guess being benched five times and being late for practice or meetings is not his fault either? Smith is a train wreck and I don't wish to see it again. I hate to admit it, but I am hoping he breaks a leg before week one. Nothing career ending, well his career never got started, but if it takes an injury, then so be it. Yes, I am a Jets fan and yes, in this case I hope he never sees the field again, no matter the reason. Burn on, its how I feel about the scrub.
lmao - Geno played in one of the worst QB games I have ever seen against the Bills, and again against the Chargers. put down the juice.
