He had a short, but very sweet tenure as a Jet: - 3 straight seasons of 1,100 + yards - 31 total TDs - holds the Jets record for rushing in a game (210) and most rushing TDs in a season (14) - never missed a game and only lost 1 fumble in 930 carries
I loved having LT as a Jet for those 2 years, one of my favorite RBs ever to play. But Jones takes the cake here. Jones would destroy the Bills each time he played them - it was awesome to watch.
TJ had a nice run from '05 to '09. His last year with us he gained the most yds. ever in his career. He was a great pick-up for us at the time. The only thing he bitched about was not getting the ball enough.
Hah! I gotta laugh!! TJ?! Really? Not because TJ is a laughable choice, he's not. But I used to belong to another forum and Jones was not well liked by one of the guys there. But seriously, you could have given the ball to Blair Thomas and gotten more yardage with the OL Jones ran behind. And, if I recall right, Jones was always spent by the end of the year. So, really, not much more than a plow horse. But he was "the Greatest Jets RB since Curtis Martin"?? Damn, that's a really significant dropoff isn't it?
both Curtis and Jones had some incredibly productive seasons post 30 yrs old. Curtis started his career as Rookie of Year, and ended his career with a rushing title at 31 years old (final full season). over 1,000 yds every year in between. he was a rock of consistency, and would produce behind any offensive line put out there. truly great player. no one really compares in Jets history, but that's a bar set pretty damn high.
slightly off topic, but do you guys remember these forums in 02-04 and everyone wanting LaMont Jordan to take over?
people were saying that in 2004, as Curtis was racking up a rushing title and earning first team All Pro honors. he was the heart beat of that season. literally the engine that powered our offense. fans often don't realize what they are seeing on the field, and instead just focus on age or other things unrelated to production. Jordan was a very good change of pace option tho..
oh, I don't fucking know... there ARE NO Greatest RB Since Curtis Martin RBs. all of them are, meh, in some way. Jones had all of, what, TWO good seasons? Green, what, A season. Leon Washington maybe. We were not a good RB drafting club, especially recently. We drafted Washington, but he fit the same profile for the Bradway drafters: undersized skill position players: Santana Moss, Leon Washington, Dustin Keller. Scotty McNight. I'm not sure, it's just a feeling that I need to research. It just seems stupid to have to go outside the organization to get a good RB: someone with size, speed, and elusiveness. I can't think of any recent RB draft pick who resembles any of that.
One note, we went a decade w/o a 1,000 yd rusher as hard as that seems. Freeman did it in 1985, the next 1,000 yd rusher we had was Adrian Murrell in 1996. Murrell did it in '97 then we got Curtis in '98 who did it every year through 2004. '05 and '06 we didn't have any then Jones had 3 straight from '07-'09.
