Im hating us in the 3-4. We dont have the right players for it and I cringe as we get run all over. I know theres some successful 3-4 teams(SD, Pitt, NE) but it seems like were forcing a square peg in a round hole. How long does it take to build a successful 3-4 defense. I honestly think we should be in a 4-3, we got the players for that.

No we don't man. We just suck on defense, our front seven sucks no matter how you slice it. 3-4, 4-3, 2-6, 2-5 it doesn't matter man.

It will take awhile but next years draft should solve some problems at linebacker, i felt we should have started this year in the 06 draft but Carpenter and Lawson werent available.

We knew that the Jets were not going to be a complete team this year. This is part of the rebuilding process -getting the right pieces in place. Only thing that's a surprise to me was that I thought that the Jets Offense would drag the team down this year not the defense. I'd have to say the Offense is a pleasant surpise thus far.

In takes as llong as takes until you get better players that can excel in that scheme. Common sense tells you that. So tell us when we will get a dominant MLB + others & whamo you have players who can play the 3-4

Potential 3-4 players we could have drafted outside the 1st round:

    3-4 DE/OLB Hybrid Pass Rushers
    Chris Gocong
    Frostee Rucker
    Mark Anderson*
    Jeremy Mincey
    Jason Hunter

    3-4 DEs

    Anthony Montgomery
    Chase Page
    Rodrique Wright
    Johnny Jolly
    Kedrick Golston
    Frederick Evans

    3-4 NTs
    Babatunde Oshinowo
    Gabe Watson
    Brandon McKinney
    Le Kevin Smith
    Domata Peko

*2nd in the NFL in sacks

at least one draft, not to mention any possible trades or free agent signings, so definitely at least one off-season

this is the one thing i really resent mangini for. there was absolutely no reason to dump last year's defense and start from scratch with players that are not fit for his system. it may have worked in new england, but that's a completely different team with different personnel.

just imagine what we'd be like with last year's defense with another year of experience under the belt. we're going through this crap for no good reason, other than to soothe mangini's ego...

The thing is, our front seven shouldn't suck. We have some quality players there.

I don't think that we're using the 3-4 to soothe Mangini's ego. We're using it because it can be more flexible than the 4-3 and it has been used to great effect by Bellichek with the Giants and the Pats. We don't have all the parts to play it properly yet, but we have to start learning the system sooner or later. Might as well be sooner.

They were quality in the 4-3. Guys like Ellis, Vilma, Barton, even Hobson.

Simple common sense will tell you that after 6 games into the season + TC that if our D still sucks then the players we have presently are not up to the chore at hand.

We need a stud NT that will help the situation. I'm not ready to give up on the quality players we have when we're not even half way through our first season in the 3-4.

No one is asking U to do that all I am saying in MHO you are looking at them with your heart & not your head. Just because they wear NYJ unis does not make them "quality" plauers which appears is the way you look at them.

There are some Dudes in our secondary that I wouldn't list as quality players, thats for sure.
