Mock draft Top 10 + all jets picks I think there will be one or two trades in the top 10 but this is if no trades. 1)Tampa- Mariota - why not ? There offensive coordinator loves him and I think he's the premier quarterback of this draft. Don't know why Winston has been rated so much better than him this offseason especially with winstons off the field issues. I know Winstons lost one college game in two years and his game translates to the pros but I honestly think Mariota is the better quarterback. 2)Tennessee - Winston- Tennessee won't say no to Winston at number 2 but would probably trade the pick if Mariota went 1st 3)Jacksonville - Dante Fowler Jr. - best upside in the draft. Real talent. 4)Oakland- Kevin White- the raiders are going to be the raiders and take white over cooper 5)Washington - Randy Gregory- I really like this kid and I think he fits perfectly as an orakpo replacement. 6)Jets***- Amari Cooper - tough to pass on Vic Beasley here but I think Amari cooper is going to be a flat out stud. If we want to give geno a chance this is the pick. Marshall and cooper on the outside and decker and Kerley over the middle with shaq Evans as a 5th option. If geno can't succeed with those guys through 4-5 games switch to Fitzpatrick and then address quarterback of the future next year. Bowles didn't have a qb when Arizona was dangerous that's how good his defense can and will be. I think we can get a push rusher later that can produce just as much because of our secondary and d line talent. 7)Chicago- Andrus peat- Bears need some offensive line help and now that the 2 best wrs are gone they try to give cutler a chance in the pocket with the best tackle in the draft 8)Atlanta-Vic Beasley - they need an OLB and Quinn would love to have Beasley with this pick to cause havoc for opposing offenses. 9)Giants-Leonard Williams - the Giants should try to get back to their old recipe for success the defensive line and Williams is arguably the best player in this draft according to some. Could go offensive line if Williams doesn't fall 10)Rams-Brandon Scherff - they need a lot off offensive line help and this is there safest pick at number 10. 1) #6 - Amari Cooper WR Alabama 2) #37 -Eli Harold OLB Virginia 3) #70 - Nate Orchard DE/OLB Utah 4) #101- Josh Robinson RB Mississippi State 7) #198 - Michael Burton FB Rutgers 7) #199- Kyle Christy P Florida This would be an ideal draft if Mariota and Winston are gone by 6 and we don't trade up. To give geno a chance you bring in copper and then has arguably the best top 3 receiving corp in the nfl with Marshall cooper decker and then Kerley in the slot. If geno falters we go to Fitzpatrick and we can also sign a better 3rd string than Simms, someone who has nfl experience so if they both falter we have an option. But I don't think it will get past Fitzpatrick unless they both get injured. I think geno or Fitzpatrick would have a good year with those wide receivers as would any decent nfl quaterback. If it doesn't work we can get our quaterback of the future next year or get a qb next offseason. I think after this draft we extend Wilkerson and give him the money he wants and sign our undrafted FAs and be ready for camp. I like Harold and orchard in the 2nd and 3rd and think they can produce just as much as Beasley. After gholston which I'm still hurt by lol jk, I think it's a risk to take an OLB in the top 10 because he can be a bust. I like Beasley and Gregory but I don't trust Gregory's of the field issues and I could have gone Beasley or cooper at this pick and then would of just got a WR in the 2nd like a jaelen strong or dorial green beckham. I think shaq Evans if healthy will cover the 5th WR spot and the 6th is up for grabs. Orchard and Harold would thrive with Bowles and this secondary I can't say it enough we just need capable pash rushers and they fit the bill. I love josh Robinson who reminds me of Darren sproles. If Melvin Gordon is there in round 2 u take him , but if not after signing Ridley we still need a pass catching explosive back and I think Robinson is the perfect fit really would love to see him in green and white. He is a bull and is compared to Maurice jones drew. I think bohannon needs some competition and anyone that watches Rutgers football knows burton was a part of their offense from the fullback position ! He's a good blocker and can catch the ball out of the backfield could be dangerous and I think he fits gaileys offense better than bohannon if we were going to use a fullback. We can always get him as a undrafted free agent too. The punter is to bring in competition and I think we should definitely have one because I'm not sold on our punting game, it can always use improvement. Don't make this mock about Mariota going number 1 because with no trades it didn't affect anything and they would of just flipped positions. But if Mariota goes 1 I see Tennessee potentially trading that pick and I'm not sold on Winston but the Jets may slide up and take him there in that scenario. If Mariota is on the board at 6 though u take him and develop him for a year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I like it because when a team drafts that high (6th), you have to get a playmaker, and you did with Cooper. I might question the 7th round picks at FB and P. Not of the opinion that you need to draft a FB. One of Rex Ryan's idiocies was trading up to round 5 to take John Connor a few years ago. FB's are not impact players so I question whether you really need to "push" Bohannon, and adequate ones could be found in free agency. As for P, Quigley is okay as a punter, so I don't see the need to use a pick on one, unless he is the second coming of Ray Guy, especially this year when we only have six. If it was last year when we had 12, then fine.
Good point. Appreciate the feedback. Yea we could just get both those guys as undrafted free agents which they probably will be. What should we use the 7th rounders on I couldn't really find an area. I guess offensive line? But we have 10 lineman already that can be used. And our secondary is set too. I just didn't know where to go with those picks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Welcome to the board. I agree that if Mariota is there at #6, we have to take him. If Mariota, White and Fowler are gone at #6, then Cooper would be a great consolation prize. I love the Harold and Orchard picks. I don't anything about Robinson, but if he compares to Sproles could be a good addition. I'm not sure that Gailey's spread uses a FB much, so while it's nitpicking, I don't think I'd use even a 7th round pick on a FB. I don't have a problem with using a 6th or 7th round pick on a punter. I think it's that important an aspect to the game. A punter taken there can have a MUCH bigger impact on games than any other position taken there probably something like 99 out of 100 times. The only possible positions that could have a greater impact would be the QB or K positions. I'd be shocked if Williams drops to the Giants at #9. I'm not sure that Geno could have a good year if his WRs were chosen from among Calvin Johnson, Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Chris Carter, Andre Johnson (in their primes) or any 5 or 6 WRs you want to name. I'm not sure if you're serious or not with this statement, but ANY player/position can bust in the top 10. I don't think OLB is any more likely to than WR, QB or OL. Are you telling us that you wouldn't take Fowler if he was there at #6? I sure would and wouldn't look back. I'd probably take him over Cooper.
Appreciate the welcome. Haha yes anyone can be a bust ur right I just can never forgot about gholston haha but that should have no impact on this pick. I agree fowler is going to be a good player I don't see him falling to 6 but if he does jump all over him. That's what I was thinking why not get a good punter especially with our defense and power running game. And I can't disagree with what I've seen I was against geno the whole year saying how bad he was. I hope Mariota falls to 6 and if he does we better not trade it to the Browns or someone. I think Mariota is a difference playmaker we have never had. You like white over cooper ? I think Cooper is going to be 10times better look at what he did to the SEC. I think white can be a good wide out but I think a guy like Sammy Coates in the 2nd or 3rd round can produce the same. Anyway I'm really excited for this draft especially the way Maccagan has approached this off season. I think he's a great gm and I trust his moves. He use to be the head of college scouting so he definitely has been watching these players all year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think White has a MUCH higher ceiling. Cooper may have already peaked and have little upside. Cooper is said to struggle some with bigger, more physical DBs. That could be a problem in the NFL. I think both will be very good, if not great WRs in the NFL, but I think White has the potential to be better. Cooper's probably more steady, while White is more explosive. I think you're totally wrong comparing Coates and White. Coates could very well be a bust. For all his physical speed and talent, he has pretty bad hands or poor focus. The focus can be fixed, but not bad hands.
Cooper, Harold and Orchard as the first three picks would be a dream come true, but doesn't speak volumes for Coples future with us.
I liked what I saw from Coates this season , you may be right though I haven't read much scouting on him. The white Cooper debate will have to be settled after they each play a couple of seasons it's anyone's guess right now. I respect your opinion though white does have a high ceiling. Yea I don't know about his future. If they bring in 2 olbs early in the draft though I think it makes him better and more determined. The more competition the better. If he has a good year though it's going to be tough to pay him if we pay Wilkerson and have to pay Richardson in the near future. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What if we trade big Wilk for the 2nd pick in the draft, move Coples to Wilkerson's position, then draft: 1. Mariota 1. Cooper 3. Harold 4. Orchard Madden as fuck.
Thanks lol and welcome! I like the mock if the first 5 picks come true which they just may we will be in a tough spot. With Mariota, Fowler, Gregory, and White gone we're left with Beasley and Cooper and there is a huge drop off IMO with Cooper being far superior despite the greater need at OLB. Having said that the decision should be easy but with a guy like Williams on board surely teams will be calling to trade up, with Chicago and Miami among others I hope we don't lose Cooper for an extra pick. I don't want Perriman and I don't want Parker when Cooper or White is available. If we do the right thing by taking Cooper we should address the OLB in rounds 2 or 3 like you did above, I'd prefer just one but it all depends who the BPA is. I haven't heard anything about that RB but we do need a 3rd down back.
Welcome to the board, I definitely don't hate it but I really don't think we go WR in the first. We brought in Decker last year and now Marshall. Why spend the 6th overall pick on a guy who might be your third string WR? And what about Kerley? Better to address a serious area of need in a pass rusher and get a 3 down player who is going to get to the QB with our improved secondary. I appreciate that you addressed the OLB/DE positions in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, and maybe that's the better way to go, but if the top 5 fall that way I think we go Beasley or maybe Scherff if they think he projects to OT (I'm not convinced) or probably trade down a few spots to someone who wants to grab Williams or Beasley and we grab Scherff (better value in the mid first) or the best available pass rusher at that point. I wouldn't really be upset with Cooper or White at 6th as they definitely look like playmakers and Marshall isn't going to play forever anyway.
Third string? Third string is when a guy is the backup to the backup. We aren't talking about a 3rd string QB or G we're talking about one of the best play makers in the draft. He may be the "third option" for a year or two but he will never be third string. We will use 3 WR's more times than we will use just 2 especially if we have 3 great receivers. Cooper is a guy who could be the best WR we've had in a long time for years to come. Marshall is in the late part of his career it makes a lot of sense to go with Cooper or White especially if the scenario this mock has with both QB's and both Fowler and Gregory gone. Why reach for an OLB when one of the best play makers is on the board. You can take care of Kerley later, whether that is trading him for a mid round pick or letting him be #4 and maybe handle PR duties.
I just hope our new scouting staff disregards the COMBINE, and goes by game film and interviews with players they are interested in. Gholston was the product of the Combine.
String or option you know what I meant. Just saying if he's going to finish the season with the third or fourth most catches and a few TDs not sure if that value is worth it. Obviously you don't pick a guy up for his year one value alone and I noted that Marshall isn't going to be around forever but you can obtain WRs without too much hassle (Decker, Harvin and Marshall in the last two seasons alone) and highly thought of and drafted WRs don't necessarily always end up being worth what people thought. I wouldn't recommend taking an OLB/DE if it's a reach, if Cooper is hands down the best guy on the board then take him but I don't think a guy like Beasley is a worse prospect than Cooper by any means. Like I said: I wouldn't be upset if we did end up with Cooper or White (obviously depending on who we passed up for them) but I don't think we need to draft a WR at 6th overall. I think we'd look back and wonder why we over looked a number of pass rushers to help us in one of our weakest points in our game to pick a luxury guy.
